Ebooks for Reading or Research
MackinVia E-books for all Grades (K - 8)
VRA students and families have access to over 9,000 e-books to read via MackinVIA. We have digital versions of most of our Sunshine State Books. Some books are interactive, some can be used as a read aloud, there are audio only books and others are simply a standard book to be read online. Some resources are multi-user while the others are single user check-out (one person at a time). In addition there are other Digital resources housed in MackinVia under Videos, Databases, and Links.
Use this link to access MackinVia https://www.mackinvia.com from any internet device. You can also download the app to phones and tablets. At this link type in the location - Valley Ridge Academy. Then click on Login. You will be directed to the Follett Destiny login page (blue and white). If you are not directed to this login, please click, Not My Location, refresh your screen and try again.
Username = e-number or s-number for students (include the e or the s)
Password = school district log-in password (animal or HAC password for students)
If you can’t log-in into your account, you can go in as a guest, don’t choose a location, username - vra and password – hawks. Most books will work in this mode but you won't be able to check-out single user eBooks or download them for offline use.
Epic - free access at home (K-8)
Students have free access to Epic at school. Usually home access requires a subscription. Right now Epic is offering free at home access from 8AM to 3PM using an educators class code. If you would like access to Epic through the VRA Media Center Classroom, please go to this link https://www.getepic.com. Click on Student and enter Class Code: wrq8906. Your child might have already set up a Profile and they can continue to use this ID. If they don't have a profile, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and have them create a profile. They may use a grade level profile too.
Epic is like Netflix for children's books. The e-book platform is provided free to educators and supported by home subscriptions. They have over 35,000 eBooks and videos.

FREE access to our JLG Digital online reading platform!

There is no limit to the number of users who can access the books, so tell your home-bound students to click to their hearts' content! Titles enter and exit the digital stream regularly, so there are always new picks available.
NOTICE: Usernames & passwords are no longer needed! Simply click the school-level book stream of your choice and you'll be automatically logged in!
Lerner Bookshelf (K-12)
Now through June 30, select Lerner eBooks will be available for free via the online Lerner Bookshelf. They've set up two collections of eBooks:

Storyline Online (K-5)
Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading.
The site was created by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation (SAG-AFTRA) and includes many wonderful books including Enemy Pie and The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

As part of their commitment to early literacy they now offer over 1,000 of their titles for free to read online. They have large leveled library, educational videos, poetry and printables.

World Book Online
World Book Online is even more than an online encyclopedia. It’s a suite of online research and discovery tools, that includes encyclopedia articles, primary source collections, e-books, student activities, educational games, pictures, audio, and video, complemented by current periodicals and related Web sites. It’s safe to explore and can be used by all levels, from Early Learning to Advanced.

Wide Open School
Wide Open School is a free collection of online learning experiences for kids curated by the editors of Common Sense in partnership with organizations like National Geographic, Khan Academy and Scholastic.
Click on "We're a Family" and select the age range to see science experiments, virtual field trips, get moving videos and much more.

DOGO News-Kids News, Current Events
DOGO Media is an online source for news, books and movies empowering kids to engage with digital media in a fun, safe and social environment. DOGO [doh-GOH] means young or small in Swahili and all their resources are geared towards kids.
They have a news site, as well as sites for DOGO books and movies. On the books site you can read and post reviews and search the St. Johns Public Library to see if the book is available.
