Longhorn Ledger
September 3-6
Principal Press
Happy Day Longhorns,
We’ve wrapped up our third week at Dr. John Long Middle School, and it’s great to see our Longhorns continuing to thrive! Students are embracing their routines, participating actively in class, and demonstrating our PBIS expectations daily. The positive energy in the hallways and classrooms is a testament to the hard work of our students, staff, and families—thank you for your ongoing support.
Continued Important Reminders:
- Extreme Heat: The temperatures are still high, so please ensure students dress appropriately and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Car Loop Tips: To help with traffic flow, remember to arrive early and avoid phone usage while driving through the car loop. Please use the interior lane for drop-off/pick-up and follow staff directions to keep everyone safe.
- Phone Usage: A reminder that students may only use their phones before and after school or when permitted by a teacher for academic purposes. Phones should be off and stored away during class and passing periods.
- Dress Code: Students should continue to adhere to the dress code—shirts must have straps and cover the waist, and bottoms should be long enough to cover the buttocks. Students may not wear halter tops or crop tops.
- Horseplay: Please discuss with your students the importance of avoiding horseplay. While we encourage fun, safety is our top priority, and we want to prevent any unnecessary accidents.
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made so far and look forward to another successful week ahead. Thank you for your dedication and partnership in making Dr. John Long Middle School a great place to learn!

Car Loop Procedures
There are two ways to drop off/pick up your student in the AM & PM: pulling up in the interior lane of car loop or parking in a space where students cross in the crosswalk.
*The school road between JLMS & WRES and the street corners at the Ridge may NOT be used to drop off or pick up students. This is a major safety issue.*
CAR LOOP – AM Drop off Procedures:
IMPORTANT: Parents/Guardians should stay in the interior lane of the car loop closest to the sidewalk and pull all the way forward to the front of the car loop which is located right across from the band room. Students may only exit from the passenger side of the vehicle. Parents may not allow students to exit vehicles in the exterior lane closest to the lot spaces. This is a major safety issue. Parents may also park in the parking lot and walk their child to the crosswalk. A staff member will safely cross your child to the sidewalk. Student drop off begins at 8:50 am.

FREE Breakfast and Lunch for all Students!
All enrolled students of Pasco County Schools are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to their household for the 2023-2024 school year. No further action is required. Each student(s) will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application.
Food & Nutrition Services will continue to process Directly Certified (SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, Homeless, Migrant) students. These families will get a letter stating their Directly Certified status of free or reduced. This letter will not have any bearing on their meal cost for the 2023-2024 school year. However, this letter can be provided by the parent if they would like to see if they are eligible for other benefits (i.e. testing fee waivers).
A la Carte items including vending machines will still be available for purchase including additional meals and/or components of the meals.
Families can reach out to Food & Nutrition Services directly through Lets Talk, call FNS at 813.794.2480, or email FNS_Finance@pasco.k12.fl.us if they have any questions regarding this new program.
