Congratulations to all of our students who showcased their skills in the Talent Show! We had dancing, singing, piano playing, and more! It was wonderful to see our students shine. It takes a lot of bravery to get up in front of such a large group of peers, parents, and school staff and showcase a talent. Amazing job to all who participated, even our line dancing staff! And a huge thank you to Mrs. Strand, Ms. Hughes, and Mrs. Hellman, (former Sunrise teacher and current Sunrise parent) for putting the event together!

Over the past few months, students could choose to run or walk laps at two lunch recesses a week to qualify for an end of year bubble party that was held this past week! Thank you to Miss Amber and all of our parent volunteers for making this happen! Students who completed enough laps earned their own container of bubbles and a popsicle, and all students were able to join the bubble party. Students danced and enjoyed the bubbles, despite the less than stellar weather!

Last Tuesday, a group of 5th graders from Sunrise competed with 5th graders from all of the other ESD elementary schools in the Enumclaw School District Fifth Grade Track Meet! Many of our 5th graders who participated were trying events for the first time! Students were able to compete in their choice of events, both on the track and on the field, as well as in several relays. You can see in the pictures how hard students were working and what focused competitors they were!

Sunrise came away the overall champion of the meet! The girl's team tied for first place with Southwood's girl's team, and our boy's team took first overall as well! A big congratulations to our competitors!

Thank you to everyone who came to our End of Year Carnival yesterday! What a fun way to celebrate a year of learning and growing together. Thank you to our PTO for planning and funding this event, and to our volunteers and staff who helped with set up, at the event, and with cleanup!

Sunrise Field Day will be Thursday, June 13th.

We need lots of volunteers, and at time time are especially in need for the PM session. Set up and clean up are also available!

The AM session will be when K-2 have Field Day. This session is 9:10-11:00. Volunteers can arrive at school as early as 8:45 to learn about the station they will be at.

The PM session is when 3-5 have Field Day. This session is 1:25-3:00.

Set up is from 8:00-9:00, and clean up is 3:00-3:30.

We have a limited number of yearbooks still available for purchase. The cost is $17.00, and they can be purchased in the main office with exact cash or a check made out to Sunrise Elementary. These will only be available on a first come first served basis.

All families of Sunrise 5th graders are welcome to join us as we congratulate our 5th graders and send them off to middle school! Fifth Grade Promotion will be the day before the final day of school: Monday, June 17th at 6pm in the Sunrise gym. Doors will open for seating at 5:40.

A reminder from our ESD Nurse: Students cannot transport prescribed or over-the-counter medications. If your student has medications in the Health Room, please arrange for pick up before the last day of school. All medications in the Health Room after the last day of school, June 18th, 2024, will be disposed of.

Summertime is a great time to relax, rejuvenate and restore ourselves. It might also be an opportunity to practice conflict resolution and self reflection skills. Conflict resolution is a skill that can be taught and developed over time. These 3 steps can help when a conflict arises.

1. Calm Down - Being calm can help us think clearly and make good choices.

• take deep breaths

• take a break

• get a drink of water

• do something else for awhile

• talk to an adult

• go for a walk

Communicate Clearly - Talk about the problem. This includes:

• listen to the other person

• apologize if needed

• calmly share your thoughts, feelings, and ideas

• consider how others feel

Choose a Solution - Once everyone has a chance to share their perspective and listen to others, it's time to pick the solution:

• share or take turns

• make a deal

• come up with a plan for next time

• rock, paper, scissors

Parents/guardians must be volunteers in order to help in classrooms, eat lunch in the lunchroom with their child, or visit the playground to join their child at recess. The volunteer application is available by clicking the link below.
