B-PV Young Life Monthly Update
NOVEMBER 2024
"Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in gratitude."
Colossians 4:2 - MSG
Two things stick out to me from the closing exhortation of St. Paul's letter to the Colossians, especially in The Message translation. First, the need for diligent prayer. Secondly, alertness. If we don't have our eyes peeled for the God's goodness we might miss an opportunity to express gratitude. Here are a few things I'm feeling extra aware of and grateful for lately...
1. Fall Weekend from a different POV. 250+ high school students from across the Heartland Region gathered earlier this month and rather than sitting in the crowd with our B-PV crew, I was up on stage as "Camp Speaker Emily". Sharing the true story of my life and how it intersects with the true story of Jesus' life was a true gift and an experience that God is continuing to use to grow me.
2. Dodgeball. Last winter several friends of B-PV Young Life pitched in so that we could purchase enough "good" dodgeballs to have an AWESOME game. We've used them a lot and every time we do I am reminded that it's the generosity of our community that allows YL leaders to give kids a space to be kids and to hear the Good News that Jesus loves them beyond measure.
3. Good books and good conversation. We may have differing opinions on what qualifies as a "good" book, but I think you know what I mean here. New ideas that teach, encourage, challenge and inspire talked about among friends. I'm in two great groups currently and I continue to be blown away by the connections of the content and daily life that are made because we're alert and paying attention together.
4. Young Life Club is happening! On Monday, November 25 high school students from B-PV, Davenport and Moline will gather for the first first QC All Area Club in YEARS! After months of prayer and trying to make it happen on our own, God has made it clear that the way forward is through collaboration. We're confident that it's going to be a blast and we're already thanking God for the ways He's going to show up in the midst of it!
5. Wreaths. A hopeful, festive reminder of new and eternal life made possible by Christ's victory over death. Also a great way for our kiddos to bank some campership money! IKYKY - we'll see you at Teske's on Saturday morning for pick up ; )
As I continue my countdown to Thanksgiving, know that I’m counting you among the many things I have to be grateful for. The work of B-PV Young Life would not be possible without those who come alongside us with their time, talents and treasure.
With great gratitude,
Emily
