Riding the Wave of Excellence!
February 16, 2025
Dear Mission Families,
What a fabulous week we had celebrating Random Acts of Kindness! Thank you so much for encouraging our students to think about kindness every day, and for joining us in dressing up and practicing acts of kindness throughout the week. Your support truly makes a difference in fostering a positive school community. We are especially thankful to the Oceanside Police Department for volunteering their time to play sports with our students. Their kindness and dedication to building positive relationships with our school community mean so much to us!
A big thank you also goes out to everyone who attended our PTO restaurant night fundraiser at Chuck E Cheese. Your participation helps us continue to provide enriching experiences for our students.
As a reminder, school will be closed from February 17th to February 21st in celebration of Presidents Week. We hope you enjoy this time with your families and look forward to welcoming students back refreshed and ready to learn on Monday, February 24.

To wrap up the week, we invite families to join us for Reading on the Grassfield on Friday, March 28, from 1:30-2:15 p.m. Bring a book, a blanket, and enjoy some reading time together!

Immigration Statement
Every family should know that every child in the Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) has the Constitutional right to attend school regardless of immigration status. OUSD does not request or record information about a student’s immigration status. Federal and state laws protect student information from disclosure to others, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). OUSD does not permit non-students, including ICE agents, access to OUSD facilities unless they can produce a warrant signed by a federal judge. School administrators will not permit the disclosure of confidential student information without first consulting their attorney to make sure that the information has been properly subject to a federal judge’s warrant.
Families should consult community resources to learn their rights and additional information will be provided to help families access these resources

OUSD has partnered with American Friends Service Committee-AFSC to host two Know and Defend Your Rights sessions. These sessions will provide valuable information to help individuals understand their rights and how to advocate for themselves and others.
Intradistrict Transfer Window is Open
Formerly known as School of Choice
Families wishing to apply for an intradistrict transfer for the 2025-2026 school year, open enrollment is underway and runs until 3:30 P.M. on February 28th, 2025.
An intradistrict transfer application is used to request to attend a different school in OUSD other than your school of residence.
If you are currently on an intradistrict transfer and your child will be attending the same school next year, you do not need to reapply. Students entering transitional kindergarten, 6th and 9th grade, must apply or reapply for an intradistrict transfer if they wish to attend any school other than their school of residence.
Applications for an intradistrict transfer are available to complete electronically on the district website’s registration page. Paper applications are available by request only at the Educational Support Services Office (ESS) located at 2080 Mission Avenue. All applications are viewed based on priority criteria and school capacity. Applications are not viewed nor are decisions made based on when or in what order the application was received. The same consideration is given to all applications turned in between December 9th 2024 and February 28th 2025.

A Safety Tool with Instructional Benefits
After successfully piloting a school safety and audio system at two of our schools during the 23-24 school year, at the June 2024 Board of Education meeting, the Board approved installing this system at all OUSD schools.
This enhancement serves as an update to our current bell and intercom system. Each classroom teacher will have a device on a lanyard that amplifies sound throughout the
classroom during every lesson. Every student, no matter where they sit, will be able to clearly hear the teacher and information being taught.
Along with audio and video capabilities, the new device incorporates a safety notification button to alert administration and front offices of any emergency situation. In the event of a classroom emergency, the teacher can activate the camera for office staff to view the situation. The device identifies the exact location to initiate school safety protocols. Further, and only in the event of a lockdown or active shooter emergency, Oceanside Police Department can utilize these same cameras to access views into classrooms and throughout the school.
Thank you for your constant support as we work to provide a safe and modern learning
environment for all!
We will provide updates on the progress of this project. OUSD's goal is to complete installation by January 2025.

- Protection Plan
- Device Usage Agreement
- More information: OUSD ITS webpage under Student Chromebook Program
Please remember that student devices are loaned to students and we ask that you encourage students to take great care of their device. Adding stickers or vandalizing devices in any way can lead to unnecessary repair or replacement costs for parents. It also saves a lot of time when students bring their device to class fully charged. We appreciate your cooperation and support in taking care of the devices.
Responsible Use of Technology
We want to emphasize the importance of monitoring and limiting your child's screen time and social media usage. While technology and social media can offer valuable educational and social opportunities, they also have the potential to become a significant distraction and, if not managed carefully, can have negative effects on your child's development. Below are 2 tips to support responsible use of technology.
TIP Number 1
Set Time Limits: Establish daily or weekly screen time limits based on your child's age and needs. Ensure they have enough time for other activities like homework, physical exercise, and social interactions.
TIP Number 2
Monitor Content: Regularly check the content your child is interacting with, whether it's through apps, games, or social media platforms. Ensure it's age-appropriate and safe.
