LAW Principal's Corner
June 2024
June is here!
As we approach the conclusion of another school year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your steadfast support and partnership. Your active involvement and dedication have been crucial in building a vibrant learning community for our students.
We would also like to express our deep appreciation to our amazing teachers. Their unwavering dedication and passion for education have motivated our students to reach new levels of academic success and personal growth. Their commitment to cultivating a love for learning is truly admirable.
As we move into the summer months, we encourage you to continue supporting your child's intellectual growth. Promoting reading during their free time can help sustain their literacy skills and spark their imagination. There are many captivating books waiting to be discovered, offering endless opportunities for adventure and learning. The district will soon release a recommended reading list for each grade level on the district website. On the topic of books, we're excited to announce that the non-profit organization "UpWithBooks" will be donating a few books for each child to take home and enjoy reading over the summer!
At the same time, it’s important to enjoy the benefits of relaxation and rejuvenation. Summer provides a necessary break from the academic year, allowing students to relax, recharge, and explore their interests beyond the classroom. Encourage them to engage in activities they love, spend quality time with family and friends, and create cherished memories.
Once again, we thank each and every one of you for your unwavering support throughout the school year. Together, we have created an environment that nurtures growth, learning, and happiness. We wish you a wonderful summer filled with warmth, laughter, and togetherness.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Lewis and Dr. Donaher

Field Day Update From Ms. Watelet
Dear Caregivers,
Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4 th . If the weather is uncooperative, we will move field
day to Wednesday, June 5 th . The decision to postpone field day, if necessary, will be made as
early as possible on Tuesday, or perhaps even on Monday evening.
Our team approach will continue for this year. Classrooms will compete with each other, on their
grade level, in 9 different stations. To help promote teamwork and to help identify grade levels,
students will wear their grade level colored shirts. This year, we will have 3, 4 and 5 students
have field day in the morning, and K, 1, 2 students participate in the afternoon.
Activities will be located in the fields behind L.A.W. on the playground basketball court and inside
the L.A.W. Gymnasium.
General Rules
1. Each classroom is to stay together for all field day activities.
2. Each classroom must stay in their assigned area for the duration of their activity, until a whistle
is blown to move to the next station.
3. Grade levels are encouraged to wear the same colored shirts to identify and promote a positive
team atmosphere.
4. Our goal is to have fun and personally challenge our students to do their best.
Helpful Field Day Tips
Following are some items that you may want to consider sending with your child on field
day:
Sunscreen – Some field days have been very warm and sunny. We will be outside a good
portion of the day. Please apply sunscreen to your child before he/she comes to school.
Water Bottle – Students do have time for drinks and restroom breaks, but a water bottle can be
convenient, as long as they are used appropriately. We encourage students to hydrate
throughout the day. Water coolers are available for student to refill their water bottles.
Hat – As a sunshade, hats are highly recommended.
Dry Clothes – Not necessary, but there is two games that use water and their shoes or clothes
may get wet.
Snacks – A special field day snack will be provided to all students. Students will also want to
have their regular snack on that day. This is a very high energy event!
SNEAKERS – Students will be required to wear sneakers and will not be allowed to play if
they are not wearing them. Students must wear appropriate footwear. Sandals/ Crocs are
not allowed!
For the safety of our LAW students, ONLY pre-approved volunteers are allowed on the field
during Field Day. This school event does not allow parents to come and observe.
Thanks to Mrs. Ferguson and Mrs. Sargent for keeping our school organized and running smoothly! They really are the rudder steering this ship!

Panther Leadership Team News!
First, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of the PLT members who generously donated snacks for our Teacher Appreciation Snack Attack Station. The members had a lot of fun setting it up for our educators. Over the past month, our PLT members have helped make Teacher Appreciation Week even sweeter (check out the video below), participated in the Memorial Day Event, and celebrated another great year with a pizza party at the Village Pizza Shop.
This year, we welcomed 56 fourth and fifth graders to the Panther Leadership Team. We wish our fifth-grade members the best of luck as they transition to Middle School, where we are confident they will continue to demonstrate their leadership skills.
Fifth-grade students will receive their t-shirts during the Moving Up Ceremony, while fourth-grade students can take theirs home on the last day of school. To our caregivers, thank you for your unwavering support this year.

Nurse Barter's Corner - Important End of the Year Information
Please remember to pick up your child’s medication in the health office prior to the last day of school.
The school can not send medication (EpiPen/Inhalers) home with your child unless permission is given by their parent/guardian. You can give permission by filling out the bottom of this form and returning it to the school nurse prior to June 12th 2023 or by email (see link below) (Controlled substances can not be sent home with a student.) I will be available for medication pick-up during school hours.
If you prefer to leave your child’s medication in the nurse’s office over the summer, you do not need to respond. Any medication left at school that expires over the summer will be disposed of as of the last day of school.
If your child is going to attend the extended school year I will send your child’s medication to Page Hilltop.
For 5th grade students that choose to not pick up or bring home their medications, your medications will be moved to the Middle School on June 17, 2024.
