Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
School starts at 8:50am and dismisses at 3:30pm. Things have generally been going smoothly. We wanted to provide a few reminders regarding best practices.
Car Drop Off and Pick Up Procedure Video: Powers Car Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures.
Office Drop Off or Pick Up: If you come to the office to drop off or pick up your child (early, late, or for an appointment) staff will ask you for a piece of identification and will help you with whatever you need.
Walkers: For people walking your child to and from school, please do not approach the building beyond the painted green square which we refer to as the parent drop off square. Please only approach the building beyond those squares if you have an appointment in our building, have been granted special permission, or need to go to the office. If you need something, please connect with an adult for support.
Please help us to be a good community partner. If you are signing your child up as a walker, they should be able to independently walk home. Car riders should use the car rider lot and not park in the neighboring community (Alexander and Charles streets) to pick up your children. We have had reports of people making illegal u-turns, parking illegally, blocking driveways, and have observed students walking across side streets without looking both ways. One parent even stopped to pick up a child in the middle of South Lake near the crosswalk as a child was being crossed. We have coordinated with the Amherst Police Department to increase patrols to make sure everyone at drop off and pick up are making safe choices. If you are a walker, the presumption is that you live within a mile of school and are walking to your home as opposed to being picke up. Thank you for your help.
