This year, we are coming together to support the Murphy family. Hunter, 11, is bravely fighting osteosarcoma, a bone cancer in his right tibia. He has two younger brothers, Jaxon (8) and Elijah (4), and their mom is facing the overwhelming challenge of trying to keep everything together on her own during this incredibly difficult time.
In addition to the t-shirt and band sales, we will be sending out a separate donation link two weeks before the event week begins. Any contribution, large or small, will make a significant impact.
Thank you for your generosity and for being a part of this wonderful community. Let’s show the Murphy family that they are not alone in this.

IB Update
This week in the IB world, many of our students are working on their Internal Assessments in their Diploma level classes. An IB Internal Assessment (IA) is an essential component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It is an independent, research-based assignment that students complete as part of their coursework for most IB subjects. The IA allows students to explore a topic of interest within the subject and demonstrate their understanding, research skills, and critical thinking.
Key Features of an IA:
Subject-Specific Requirements: Each subject has its own guidelines and criteria for the IA. For example:
- Sciences: Students conduct an experiment or investigation.
- Mathematics: Students create an exploration of a math concept or problem.
- History: Students write a historical investigation on a specific research question.
- Languages: Students engage in an oral presentations or literary analysis with their teacher.
Weighting: The IA contributes a significant percentage (usually 20–30%) of the final IB grade for that subject.
Supervised by Teachers: Teachers guide students through the process, providing feedback and ensuring academic honesty.
Assessed Internally and Moderated Externally:
- Teachers assess the IA using detailed criteria provided by the IB.
- A sample of IAs is sent to IB examiners to ensure consistency and fairness in grading.
Personalized Topic: Students are encouraged to choose a topic of personal interest, making the IA a unique opportunity to explore something they’re passionate about within the subject.
Timeline: The IA is usually completed over several months during the first or second year of the IB Diploma Programme.
Skills Demonstrated: The IA assesses skills like research, analysis, critical thinking, problem-solving, and written or verbal communication.
For more information about the IA's, we in the IB department encourage you to ask an IB student and see what their IA is all about!
