LPS "MONTH OF AWARENESS" CONCLUDES WITH RED RIBBON WEEK
October is a Month of Awareness at Livingston Public Schools, as we join districts statewide to honor the Week of Respect, School Violence Awareness Week and Red Ribbon Week! Our programs highlight our continued focus and dedication to teaching acceptance, anti-racism, kindness and respect in order to foster positive and safe school environments.
This week, LPS is closing out the Month of Awareness by celebrating Red Ribbon Week! The goal of this campaign is to bring awareness around substance abuse prevention, education, and intervention. At LHS students created art and writing projects based on the themes of Red Ribbon Week in the form of an art or writing piece. Shown above are some of the Red Ribbon Week themed photos created by Creative Photography 2 classes. Also shown is a photo of Steven Benvenisti, who talked to LHS students about his experience being seriously injured by a drunk driver and urged them to talk to their parents about the "Contract for Life."

UNLOCKING KNOWLEDGE AT MPMS
Alcohol and Drug Awareness Breakout Activity
Mrs. Jessica Blomn's health classes at Mt. Pleasant Middle School recently took a deep dive into their alcohol and drug awareness unit with an exciting Breakout activity, that Mrs. Blomn crafted with media specialist Mrs. Jessica Sental! Students earned extra credit by collaborating to tackle a series of challenging puzzles and clues, using their knowledge to unlock the combinations for three different locks. This engaging hands-on experience not only reinforced their learning but also fostered teamwork and higher-order thinking. Students are shown here after completing the activity.
HMS STUDENTS VOLLEY AGAINST VIOLENCE
Last Friday, Heritage Middle School (HMS) students enthusiastically participated in "Volley Against Violence," an annual event celebrating the conclusion of School Violence Awareness Week! Organized by the HMS Physical Education (PE) and School Counseling Departments, the program brought together local police officers and students for an exciting day of volleyball games during PE classes. A special thank you goes out to lead PE teacher Roger Rubinetti for his coordination of this event. "Volley Against Violence" not only fostered a sense of community spirit and fun, but also strengthened the connections between students and law enforcement.

Throughout the school year, Livingston High School names “Lancers of the Month." Lancers of the Month can reflect any of the pillars of the LPS Portrait of a Graduate, as well as any other admirable traits, such as kindness, civility, or resiliency.
“That is, individuals who by what they do and how they do it, give life to our community,” said LHS principal, Amro Mohammed.
The September 2024 Lancers of the Month included students Eli Wheeler and David Weinrib and staff members Orhan Ajeti, Rachel Henry, Karen Alessio and Lloyd Hamilton (not pictured). Each honoree received a certificate in recognition of this achievement. Congratulations to all!
