Important Dates for 8th Grade Parents
The GJHS and Goshen High school counselors continue to prepare 8th grade students for the transition to high school. Please refer to the links regarding important dates of which to be aware. Students will be asking parents for input as they finalize their course selections for 9th grade:
GHS Flight Plan Fair Held at GJHS!
Every high school student must select a graduation pathway in order to graduate from an Indiana high school. To help 8th grade students learn about different pathways offered at Goshen High School, GHS students presented to eighth graders on November 16 during the Homeroom period. We are grateful to the GHS school counseling team for the tremendous coordinating and planning of this event benefitting our GJHS students.
After-School Events
Also, please make sure you have a plan for your child to be picked up within10 minutes of the end of the event. Students should be aware of ride arrangements prior to attending events.
Staff members running these events have other responsibilities and families waiting at home for them, and we appreciate your help with this. Students who are consistently picked up late from events may be asked not to attend these events anymore.
Clinic Reminder
With flu and cold season underway, we want to remind students and parnets that students must check in the clinic first if they are feeling sick, instead of calling or texting home themselves to be picked up.

7-2 Students Experience Geocaching in Math Class
Mr. Fish’s 7th Grade Pre-Algebra classes used geocaching to learn about the characteristics of Linear Equations. Geocaching outside of school is a worldwide scavenger where people use an app to locate different items hidden around their location. Geocaching for Mr. Fish’s class required students to use information about linear equations to graph lines on a map of the school. The location of the cache would be located where the two lines cross. Student groups would then find the hidden marker at each of these locations in the school. These pictures are some of the selfies that the students took at each of the locations.

7-2 Scientists Have Been Busy!
In today's world, it is essential for students to understand the impact they have on the environment and the importance of sustainable practices.
One of the activities that stood out during their learning journey was the creation of a synthetic gel worm. This hands-on experiment allowed the students to understand the harmful effects of plastic waste on marine life.
In addition to the gel worm experiment, the students put their design process to the test by building standing towers out of marshmallows and toothpicks. This activity aimed to enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. As the students collaborated and faced various challenges along the way, they realized the significance of teamwork and effective communication. Through trial and error, they learned how to construct stable towers, demonstrating their ability to apply their knowledge in a practical setting.
Lastly, the students became scientists themselves as they participated in a fossil digging and resource exploration activity. Equipped with tools (toothpicks ☺️), they excavated simulated archaeological sites (cookies), searching for fossils and natural resources. This immersive experience allowed them to understand the significance of preserving our natural resources and how to utilize resources responsibly.
Overall, these activities not only provided valuable hands-on experiences but also fostered a sense of responsibility towards the environment within the students.
Dress Code
Our goal is to help students understand and evaluate appropriate settings for formal vs. informal attire, which is a skill they will use in the world beyond school. Students will see this addressed starting on the first day of school.
We appreciate parents working with us on this. If you have questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact an administrator.
