ETHNIC STUDIES INFORMATION SESSIONS & SURVEY FEEDBACK📖
Thank you to everyone who participated in either the Ethnic Studies information sessions, watched the recording and/or took the survey last month. We truly value your input as we continue to build this course.
Along with the video recording, we compiled the questions received at each information session and created a FAQ on our website. Included below is a synopsis of the survey results.
__________________________
Ethnic Studies Survey Results
At which grade do you think Ethnic Studies should be taught?
9 - 39.6%
10 - 17.1%
11 - 17.1%
12 - 26.1%
Course Feedback
The Ethnic Studies course feedback reveals a polarized response with passionate supporters advocating for cultural understanding and critics expressing concerns about potential political bias and academic priorities.
Support for the Course
Supporters believe the course can promote empathy, address discrimination, teach accurate historical narratives, and potentially be integrated across multiple grade levels to foster a more inclusive educational environment.
Criticisms and Concerns
Critics argue the course may be unnecessary, potentially politically biased, detract from core academic subjects, and risk creating division instead of understanding.
Suggestions for Improvement
Recommendations include focusing on shared cultural values, providing transparent curriculum details, maintaining a balanced perspective, offering flexibility in course delivery, and ensuring academic objectivity.
Mixed Opinions
Participants showed nuanced perspectives, with conditional support dependent on inclusive teaching methods and varying viewpoints on the relevance of local historical context.
ASK THE SCHOOL PSYCOLOGIST🤔
Screen Time & Sleep
Studies have found an association between screen media use and delayed bedtime and/or decreased total sleep time due to time on screens that replaces time sleeping, psychological stimulation and light exposure, and increased physiological alertness.
