Closing out Black History Month


@Eastern- Eastern Middle School's Social Studies Department will reflect on what they have learned this month by having each student create a link on the Eastern Black History Month Community Chain to be displayed in our school. Each student will have the opportunity to list a person or event they learned about that resonated with them and explain why. I will share pictures in the upcoming newsletter of the culmination chain in black (G6), red (G7) and green (G8) which will hang in our hallway.

Eastern’s SGA Winter Dance

The SGA is hosting Eastern’s winter dance:

  • Date: This Thursday, February 29th
  • Time: 5:00-7:00PM
  • Price: $7 (Sold in all lunches starting February 23rd)

*Students must have a signed permission slip to attend.

Celebrate Your Heritage at CULTURAL HERITAGE NIGHT!

Kudos on a Successful Production of Shrek Jr.

Thank you to our sponsors, Ms. Rowe & Ms. Shannon and to our talented student cast for sharing their talents at the winter production of Shrek Jr.! It was amazing to watch our students transform into these delightful characters. Thank you so much to all of our staff and community who supported this show. Donate to the Media Center

The Library Media Center is in need of clear glass jars for a makerspace lesson. The jar needs to be big enough for a battery tea light to fit in, but we’ll take pickle, jam, mason, sauce, and any other shape/size of clear jar you are willing to donate. No lids necessary. Please send all clean, clear, glass jars to the Media Center. Thank you!

MAKE-UP Snow Day

As a reminder, MCPS sent a message to families that Monday, April 22 will shift to an asynchronous learning day for all students. The day is designated as a professional development day for teachers and possible make-up day for students in the 2023-2024 Traditional School Year Calendar. Students will engage in learning experiences and complete work asynchronously.

Open House Feedback

Thank you to all of our families who visited for Open House. We had over 70 families signed up and additional families who attended as walk-ins! Our families who completed the survey provided positive feedback overall and provided us with a couple of areas to think about.


As an important note, please be sure to frequently check the "Dates to Remember" section in the weekly newsletter. A families reported missing the date of Open House that had been shared weekly since 1/7. Important dates are in the very first section of the newsletter, so be sure to check it and save dates on your calendar. We definitely want to see you here!

The Eastern Middle School PTSA, in collaboration with the Student Government Association and the Minority Scholars Program, is excited to extend an invitation to the Eastern Cultural Heritage Night, on Thursday, April 18th!

⏰ Time: Setup begins at 5:30 PM; Event from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
