Dear Parents/Carers,
This week, we have been very busy and have had numerous things happening across school.
This week’s ‘Memorable Moments’ in the curriculum
Remembrance
On Sunday, Mr McIntyre and Mr Reynolds attended the Remembrance Parade and Service in Pontefract with a couple of our pupils where they laid a wreath in the wreath-laying ceremony. It was wonderful for the children to be part of something so meaningful.
In addition to this, on Monday, we welcomed Reverend Hartley back into school to deliver an assembly of Remembrance. We also held a two-minute silence in school to remember those who fell and to mark the end of the First World War.
Recommended Books
As a result of school fund raising opportunities, I have recently purchased over £300 worth of new books much needed for pupils aged 7 and above. There are many new Percy Jackson books, stories linked to a time in history, a new Roblox collection and a crime series by Robyn Stevens amongst others. In addition to this, I have brought in some of my own children’s books and annuals for the children to enjoy.
The books are on display both outside and inside my office and they have gone down a treat with the children with many asking to take books home or sit and read books together at lunchtime.
Thank you so much for your contribution to our school fund raising. This could not be achieved without your support with our events. If you do happen to have any good quality books that are no longer read at home, I would welcome them in school. In the last few days, I have received a few bags of books from families on the back of children coming home with their new books. Thank you so much. We will ensure that they are well looked after and continue to be enjoyed.
Anti-bullying Week
This week, we have centred our assemblies around bullying for anti-bullying week and this important topic has also been the focus of our class discussions. On Thursday, the pupils wore odd socks to encourage self-expression and celebrate individuality.
Children in Need
Today, we have had a school full of fun and fund raising for Children in Need.
EYFS have completed a danceathon.
Year 1 completed a sponsored obstacle course.
Year 2 completed a sponsored fitness routine.
Year 3 completed a sponsored walk.
Year 4 have been running all week long and have managed to run over 400 laps of the school field in all weathers!
Year 5 completed a danceathon and danced for over 1000 minutes in class!
Year 6 managed to complete over 7500 skips throughout the school day!
In addition to this, children came in non-uniform and donated £1 for the charity and we also brought back our huge cut out of Pudsey Bear and covered him in pennies!
Thank you so much for your donations for this very worthy charity. What an achievement!
Next Week
Next week, we look forward to welcoming our families into school to look through pupil books and chat to the teaching staff about the progress your children are making. I am sure that you will be super proud and amazed with the work that you will see.
