Wiggin Street Parent Update
May 24, 2024
Better Together
Dear Wiggin Street Families,
As I finish this week's update, I'm reminded again about how much happens over the span of a week in elementary school, especially in May! The culminating camping event was a success. The fifth grade students were taught the "Leave No Trace" principle for all public lands by Mrs. Croswell.
We received all of the grade 3-5 students' state test scores this week, and they have all been uploaded to Progressbook Parent Access for your viewing. We are very happy with the efforts of all students and are proud of their progress.
Our Summer Reading Kickoff was this week, and students will be bringing home their Summer Reading Logs in their report cards next week. This summer's theme is the Olympics and Ms. Waugh, Mrs. Wegmiller, and Mr. Evans planned for some fun events to kick off this year's theme.
On Monday this week, Mrs. Eilbacher and some of our 3rd grade students and kindergarteners presented about Wiggin Street's Kinder and Third Grade Buddies. I highly encourage you to watch the video below. The slide show was created by Anna Reese Glandon, Emmy White, and Ora Leatherman under the supervision of Mrs. Eilbacher, and they did an amazing job. Kindergarteners, Eternity Fountain and Cora Mickley helped present and were so brave! This presentation highlights the teachers' multiage approach to teaching our district's SEL program, Second Step, play based learning, and the opportunity for leadership.
Enjoy the pictures from all the other events and field trips this week. We hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!
Sincerely,
Christy Grandstaff

4th Quarter PBIS Event: Duct Tape and a Frozen Treat
Students are working this quarter for 50 PBIS points. The reward is a piece of Duct Tape to participate in Duct Taping me to a wall. While I'm hanging out, LOL, they will enjoy a frozen treat at recess. The culminating event will be when they come back in and pass through the hallway to see me all duct taped!

National Park Camping
As the culminating event for the Kindergarten City Project, as Travel Agents, 5th graders planned a "camping vacation" to a National Park for the Kindergarten and 3rd Grade Buddies. The simulation was held today on the school playground and included roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over a real campfire, Camp Music, Camp Games, Wading Pools, a Storyteller, Birdwatching, and a National Park Trail to learn about each one!
Senior Breakfast
Congratulations to the 2024 Senior Graduates! This morning was our Senior Breakfast where former Wiggin Street students shared their plans for the future and their favorite memory.
Good News! Road Closure slated to now begin June 3rd!
Update: It looks like the contractor will be on site after Memorial Day but closure is not expected until June 3rd so transportation may not be affected for this school year.
Village council held a special session on Monday April 22nd at 7pm to update the community regarding the construction at the intersection of Route 229 and Wiggin Street between May 28, 2024 and November. The construction will require road closure, and the session covered how travel will be impacted to and from the village. KnoxPages covered the session and published this article. More information can be found here on the Kenyon website.
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found is overflowing again! Please have your child check for missing coats and sweatshirts. All items will be donated in June.
6th Grade Music Signups
We had a great turnout for our incoming sixth grade sign up night and it looks like more than half of the class will be a part of the music! If a student missed the sign up night but wants to join a music class, they may still join by emailing (preferable) or calling one of the music teachers.
