Message from your Principal
Dear Carver Elementary Families and Caregivers,
What a fabulous last full week of school! On Tuesday, our selected fourth and fifth grade students attended the Ron Hein track meet at the Gary Barry Stadium. Shout out to Coach Cutler, Mr. Dylan, and Dr. Fo for supporting our students that attended. We had a great representation of Carver Elementary at the track meet!
Thank you to the students and families that attended our last Skate City event of the school year-we had a great turnout! We also had our largest student turnout for our last Pancakes with the Principal! Thank you for bringing your students to school at 7:30 AM!
Friday was a busy day with our Field Day-shout out to Coach Cutler for organizing and planning this successful event! Students, staff, and families enjoyed the morning with our K-2 students and the afternoon with our 3-5 students! Thank you to ALL that attended and shout out to the volunteers that facilitated the stations! SO MUCH FUN!
We ended our week with our Fifth Grade Promotion and we shed many tears over our Fifth Grade Class! Way to go Ms. Lane and Ms. Johnson for your untiring dedication and support to our fifth grade students this year. Thank you to Ms. Taylor for the wonderful slide show and kindergarten pictures of our seventeen fifth graders that have attended Carver since Kindergarten!!
Thank you for your support and we look forward to continuing to partner with families to make Carver a place that everyone wants to be at! Please check our Facebook Page for videos and pictures! https://www.facebook.com/carver.d11.org/
We have two FULL days of school left! We continue to prepare all students for their next grade level and we still have a lot of learning to do! Many teachers are completing projects and we look forward to our students cross curricular learning. Please make sure that your students are reading, practicing sight words, math facts, and getting outside this summer!
On Monday, May 20th, we will have our Fourth Quarter Awards ceremony in the gym from 8:15-9:00 AM. Students were provided a small reminder on Friday on a colored sheet of paper.
Our Fifth Graders will have their End of Year BBQ on Monday with hamburgers and hot dogs from 12:30-2:30 PM. This will be a great opportunity for our students to enjoy one another and have some outdoor fun!
On Tuesday, May 21st, we will have our Kindergarten Continuation ceremony in the gym from 8:15-9:00 AM. Please drop your student off by 7:50 AM, so they can eat breakfast and line up with their class. Kindergarten students are welcome to go home with their parents after the ceremony.
Carver Elementary is hosting Summer Bridge from June 3rd-June 28th. If you have not returned the permission slip, please complete it ASAP. We will also have A LOT of construction being completed this summer-new, secured entrance, walls between classrooms, painting, furniture, fence, and even a new parking lot! Please be patient this summer if your child is attending Summer Bridge, safety is always our number one priority.
We are also adjusting our school entrance hours for next school year. The gym doors will open at 7:30 AM for breakfast in the cafeteria from 7:30-7:50 AM. All students will wait in the gym and when the bell rings at 7:50 AM, students will be escorted to the classroom. Breakfast will NOT be served after 8:00 AM and if your student arrives AFTER 8:00 AM, an adult is REQUIRED to sign their student in at the front office. We will begin instruction promptly at 8:00 AM to maximize learning time next school year. We appreciate your support with this.
It has been a true honor to serve as the Principal of Carver Elementary. Thank you for sharing your child with us at Carver Elementary! I appreciate all of you and look forward to next school year! Our Back to School BBQ will be Friday, 9th from 4:00-6:00 PM and students will be able to meet their teacher!

Carver Attendance-We need your support! This is our current attendance!
Attendance Matters!
Did you know?
- Starting in Preschool and Kindergarten that TOO MANY absences can cause a student to fall behind in school.
- Frequent absences in school can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school, dealing with a bully, or facing some other difficulty.
- By sixth grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
- By ninth grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates, than eighth grade test scores.
- Missing 10% or two days over a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student's academic success.
How to Make Attendance a Priority
- Communicate with your student the importance of attending school every day.
- Discuss creating daily routines such as setting a regular bedtime and morning routine, finishing homework, and getting a good night's sleep.
- Create backup plans for getting your student to school in case of bad weather or something comes up.
"When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances of graduating." Attendance Works
We are currently averaging 90.42% attendance. Our GOAL is 93%. Let's work towards this to help support our student's learning!

Notes from our Counselor
Hello everyone!
Thank you for your support this year, it has been a pleasure to be your partner as your child navigates elementary school. This year has been a great year, full of learning experiences for all of us. The end of the school year is upon us so let’s make the most of transitions by celebrating the end of the school year and new beginnings!
A good transition is key to minimizing behavioral issues, teaching life skills, and helping children get a handle on their emotions.
What is a transition? A transition is the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another. All transitions involve changes for children and families, and every transition presents opportunities and challenges. It can be especially hard for pre-kindergarten and elementary students to understand and accept school is over for the year. Now that summer is approaching and the end of the school year is here, it’s the perfect time to create that transition for your child or children smooth as possible.
How can you create an end of school year transition from home? Below are a few ideas:
- Goodbyes - Saying farewell to teachers, friends, and school staff is a common way to close out the school year and it can be challenging for some of our students; talk to your child.
- Make Plans for Summertime - Brainstorm and create a summer bucket list. Create a list or two lists that approach what summer might look like with or without social distancing. Ask your student to draw or write down things they would like to do this summer and plan., print it out and put it up in your house so you can check off things from your list throughout the summer.
- Stick to a schedule: Even with all of the end-of-year events and activities, limit your family’s activities to ensure your child is still getting enough sleep.
- Maintain friendships: Your child may be nervous about losing touch with friends, especially if they are transitioning to a new classroom or school. If you can, get some dates on the calendar to reconnect with classmates or meet new children who may be in summer programs with your child.
- Watch your words: Be thoughtful about when and how you mention the start of the next school year, and know that many kids don’t have a good sense of how far away that is.
- Looking Forward – Talk to your child “you’re going to be a kindergartener or 1st grader next year I am so proud of you! Talk about what your child enjoyed most from the current year (writing, making art, particular sports?).
Transitioning to summer is a fun time for all. However, when they do not have the opportunity to mark the end of a school year with traditional activities, it can be quite challenging for them. Help them cope and adjust by creating your own “last week of school” from home. If you have any questions about summer activities or need any resources for your child or yourself, please do not hesitate to reach out!.
With kind regards,
Mrs. Gio

STUDENT COUNCIL UPDATES
Thank you all who participated, collaborated and volunteer to Student Council events so far; students learned to be a leader by taking responsibility, ownership, follow through on their word, advocating for school activities for all students to enjoy and leading by example. Here are some of their accomplishments: Attendance awareness, movie nights, candygrams, assembly’s support, CMAS encouragement to students, career week, 22 library books donated, library painting, school dance, talking to students about how to be a leader and more!
It has been such a joy to be their advisor this year, Carver and all of us are proud of you. thank you for serving Carver!
