FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
We are so excited to invite you to a very special event happening on Thursday, March 13th! Our 1st-3rd graders will be showing off their incredible dance moves during a fun and lively performance, which will take place during their regular PE class time.
For over 10 years, our 4th and 5th graders have been taking dance classes from talented instructors at SMC Dance, and this year, we’re thrilled to finally offer the same amazing opportunity to our younger students! This is the very first time our 1st-3rd graders have had the chance to explore the world of dance, and we couldn’t be more excited about how much they’ve learned!
They’ve spent the past 10 weeks learning from the talented Lisa (Leelee) Medford, a beloved local dance instructor who knows just how to make dance fun and accessible for kids. Twice a week, our students have been practicing their moves, building confidence, and learning to express themselves in ways that are both exciting and empowering.
Dance isn’t just about movement—it’s about self-expression, creativity, and working together as a team. The benefits are endless: it helps students build coordination, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. And now, they’re ready to show you everything they’ve learned!
See below for your child's performance time. Remember students should dress in black with a pop of color!
8:15-8:40 - 2nd grade
8:45-9:10 - 1st grade
9:15-9:40 - 3rd grade*
*Note: The 3rd graders from Maestra Cachú-Rios class will not be in this performance. They took dance class and performed with the 4th graders in the Fall.
We can't wait for you to see how much fun they’ve had, and we know you’ll be as amazed as we are by their energy and creativity!
Warmly,
Directora Ipiña

WEDNESDAY PARENT MEETINGS - ELAC
Each Wednesday, from 8:30-10:00 am, we have parent meetings in the Library. All parents are invited. Meetings are bilingual and there is a Zoom option at this link.
This week we will be hosting an ELAC (English Learner Advisory Council) Meeting. We will be asking for input on the Parent Survey and preparing for Noche de Cesar Chavez.
JOG-A-THON IS COMING! PLEASE DONATE!
Get ready to run, jump, and groove at Edison Language Academy's Jog-a-Thon on March 21st!
This exciting event will have our students running to fun music, with parents cheering them on from the sidelines. Every child will receive a Jog-a-Thon t-shirt as they race toward their goals. Not only will it be a great time, but it's also a fantastic way to help raise money for the outstanding education we provide at Edison.
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, so start gathering those donations now!
And don't forget to send your child to school with running shoes for the next three weeks as we prepare for the big day! Check out the schedule below for the exact PE time during which each class will participate.

MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL - SHARE YOUR CULTURE WITH US!
Edison's first-ever Multicultural Festival will be on Friday, May 16th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. While the event is still a few months away, we're already planning this incredible celebration where each family has the chance to share their unique culture with our community.
We are looking for families to host a cultural table representing their culture. Imagine vibrant displays showcasing folk art, crafts, traditional clothing, musical instruments, photos, books, toys, and decorations—whatever brings your culture to life! Every table will offer delicious bite-sized food samples, so our students can taste the flavors of your homeland. Our students will travel through the festival with a passport, experiencing the world in one exciting afternoon.
We can’t make this event happen without YOU! Sign up now to be part of this amazing opportunity! We’ll pair families with similar heritage so you can collaborate on creating your country’s display. Let’s work together to enrich our students' understanding of their own cultures and of those around them!

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS
DISMISSAL SAFETY
We care deeply about the safety of all of our students. Unfortunately, some unsafe situations are occurring during dismissal.
STUDENT PICK UP: Teachers are responsible for ensuring that students arrive safely to their afterschool destination. Some parents are waving from across the street or far away for their child to come to them causing students to run across the street or leave without the teacher noticing. We will no longer release children to run to their parents from far away. Parents must come within 10 feet of the teacher and ensure they get the teacher's attention when picking up their child.
DOUBLE PARKING: Some parents are double or triple parking when picking up their child. This is very inconsiderate and creates a gridlock so no one can get by. If this continues, parking enforcement will begin giving tickets. Do not double or triple park when picking up your child.
SOLUTIONS: Both of these situations can be avoided by either arriving early to get parking near school or by parking at Virginia Park and walking over. We understand that this is not convenient, but we hope that you value student safety as much as we do and will partner with us keep our students safe!
LOOKING FOR PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS
Got a drawer stuffed with plastic grocery bags just begging to be put to good use? Well, we've got the perfect job for them! Our Nurse's Office is in need of plastic bags to stash students' soiled clothing when they need to change. If you’ve got extras, please swing by the front office and drop them off! Let's give those bags a second life! 🌟
Edison Library Wishlist
Our fantastic librarian, Yoly, would like to send a huge THANK YOU to all of the families that have bought books. We keep getting new books! The kids have been so excited to get the books that they have been asking for. If you would like to buy a book and donate it to our library, our students would be very grateful. Click here to see our Edison Library Wishlist.
Immigration Resources
We want to reassure our community that Edison and the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) remains steadfastly committed to ensuring that every student, regardless of their immigration status, has access to a safe, secure and nurturing learning environment. You can find resources regarding information regarding immigration at the link below.
DO YOU NEED SUPPORT? SPEAK TO JESSICA HERNANDEZ
At Edison, we deeply value our community and are committed to ensuring that all families receive the support they need. If you’ve been impacted by the fires, immigration laws, job loss, or are in need of food or mental health assistance, please reach out to our Bilingual Community Liaison, Jessica Hernandez. She can connect you with support services available in the LA area. Don’t hesitate to get in touch – you are not alone, and we are here to help.

5th GRADE ANNOUNCEMENTS
5TH GRADE PLAYS ARE COMING!
Here is the play schedule:
March 17: Final Play: Murcia (rehearsal, 8:30 am, show 6 pm)
March 18: Final Play: Perez (rehearsal, 8:30 am)
March 19: Final Play: Perez (show, 6pm)
March 20: Final Play: Morales (rehearsal, 8:30 am, show 6 pm)
We need parent volunteers to help:
- Set up of the stage (Saturday)
- Backstage help for each show (rehearsals and performance - same people if possible)
- Clean up after each show
Please note - if you help backstage you will BE backstage and not seeing the show. So it may be best to volunteer for a night your child is not performing, if you would like to be in the audience.
Another note - Perez play has been moved because of the JAMS meeting. Which means the rehearsal for Perez is Tuesday, but the performance is on Wednesday.
Maestra Martha would also like the same people who help with rehearsal to come back and assist with the performance, as they will know where everything is. However, I know how hard that can be for some of us - but if you can please try.
