JOHNSON FAMILY NEWSLETTER
FEBRUARY 2025
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear Johnson families,
Welcome to the beautiful month of February! February will be full of fun! We are busy with learning and activities everyday here at Johnson Primary.
Our focus remains to cultivate a positive climate and create the best learning environment possible. School Safety and student learning is my highest priority. Everything that we do at Johnson is designed to support students learn in all areas and to be successful.
It is hard to believe that we have passed the halfway point of the school year. Students are settled in routines and understand our schoolwide expectations. Teachers have worked hard to create meaningful learning opportunities and teach schoolwide behavior expectations. Consistency and predictability are key factors for student positive outcomes, as well as a calm learning environment to better focus on learning.
Our K-3 rd Grade students have done a remarkable job in their academics with DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators Basic Early Literacy Skills) scores, and our 2nd and 3rd Graders came up top three for Silverbell Region in their Benchmarks both for Reading and Math. We are proud of our focus and path in the successful learning of our students. Our teachers are dynamic educators working hard in the company of our resource educators.
We are excited to share that we are continuing to recognize our Students of the Month, Quarterly Awards and Perfect Attendance. I am also proud to share the Principal Positive Referrals to support students’ positive leadership and our Counselor’s SEL Character Strong Awards each month.
We’re fortunate to work with your students every day. Thank you for allowing us to play a crucial role in their development.
Respectfully,
Rose Cota
Principal
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Greetings Johnson Parents, Families, Students, Faculty and Staff.
This month we are teaching and reaffirming the character trait of Honesty. One way to think about Honesty is “being truthful in what you say and do" (Character Strong curriculum). You have probably heard the adage, "honesty is the best policy", in practice being honest usually results in the best outcome. But getting good at being honest is a lot like getting good at anything in life, it takes practice and repetition and sometimes a little trial and error. Studies have shown that practicing Honesty helps strengthen our relationships and reduces stress. Honesty is one of three traits we will focus on at Johnson Primary that help students Be Well (part of our Character Strong curriculum). Where honesty helps build healthy relationships, dishonesty tends to lead to distrust, anxiety and potentially unhealthy relationships. Helping our students see the importance of being honest and establishing healthy relationships is a high priority. Thank you for encouraging our students to pursue an honest and healthy lifestyle.
Your Counselor,
Mr. Bateman
