Tutoring is here!
It's that time of year! Tutoring is in full effect. Math tutoring is held Monday and Tuesday and Reading Tutoring is held on Thursday and Friday from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. These programs are by invitation only. Participants received an invitation and had to accept the invitation. This week school is closed on Tuesday, November 5th so we will not have tutoring.
Saturday Academy is here!
Saturday Academy has begun. Students who were invited and accepted the invitation prior to the deadline should report to the back of the school for drop off at 9:00 a.m. Pick up will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Please make sure to be on time for drop off and pick up.
CMIT North Elementary Tiger's 6th Annual Health Awareness & Fitness Day/Fall Festival!
Whether you're interested in promoting wellness as a vendor, volunteering to help, offering your health expertise, or simply attending as a guest, there’s something for everyone! We invite the entire community to come together and celebrate health, wellness, and fitness.

We are offering 10 interactive activities for preK 4-5 year olds, focusing on key readiness domains: Physical Well-Being & Motor Development, Language & Literacy, Math, and Social Foundations. Each child will receive a Kindergarten Readiness Kit after completing the activities. There are 50 slots available, and you must register to secure a spot. The event is free for all participants.

*Clubs have started*
Greetings Parents/Guardians! The club lottery has closed and those selected received notification. Clubs started on October 14, 2024. Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25 p.m.-2:55 p.m. school dismissal. Club decisions are final. If your child was not selected in the initial lottery they have been waitlisted. Club times are from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on the days specified. Clubs students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m.

Nurse Updates
A Message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost at 100% please continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

The Kindergarten Team is asking that families use this week to review the STEM Fair packet with your scholars and begin thinking about topics/questions.

ELA: We are reviewing the letter “Kk” and the short and long sound of the letter “Oo”. We will read the informational text "Making a Place to Live." We will review adjectives and rhyming words and our sight words are: they, you, and do.
Social Studies: We are learning about the state where we live; Maryland. We will learn about the important symbols of Maryland.
Math: We are working on classifying objects into categories.We will sort and count objects in each category.
Science: We will learn about sunlight and what it does on the earth's surface.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever or is not feeling well, please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Hello Families,
First grade had a wonderful spirit week! All the scholars enjoyed dressing up and looked awesome! Scholars are able to buy books from the book fair next week, if you would like your scholar to purchase books, please do so through ewallet.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
Next week, we will continue Unit 2 theme Nature's Wonders. The weekly question is, what patterns can we see on a prairie? In phonics, we will work on Long a – ai, ay, ey, ea, ei
words. In Math, we will begin topic 5. This topic focuses on subtracting within 10 using strategies. In Social Studies, we will continue lesson 3, American Culture.
In Science, we will begin Lesson 3, Matter within Objects.
As we continue to settle into the school year, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness. Lastly, please label your scholar's school uniform jackets.
Our next field trip is scheduled for November 21st. We will visit Arts on Stage. Permission slips will be sent home within the next week.

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 2: Lesson 3 Economic Choices.
This week in Math, we are finishing up Topic 5, where students have been using multiplication tables and other multiplication strategies to quickly and accurately solve multiplication problems. We'll take our topic test at the end of the week.
In Science, students are continuing to learn about magnetic forces, looking at ways that metals attract each other without direct contact.
We will be going on a field trip to the Maryland Science Center on December 6, 2024. Students brought home their permission slip today. All payments and permission slips are due by December 1, 2024. Please complete the payment on MySchoolBucks and return the permission slip before the due date.

Election Day November 4, 2024
There is no school on Election Day.

Science
In Science this week, students will be able to describe what makes up the geosphere. Students will also describe what makes up the biosphere.
Math
This week in Math , we will explore division of whole numbers.
RELA
Students will continue learning informational texts and analyzing information with the theme of observations.
Social Studies
Chapter 4 is lengthy and with 5 lessons to explore, we are deciphering every detail as we learn about William Penn, Roger Williams, the middle colonies, how the colonial government ran things early on, and why slaves were made to come here in the first place. It has been very interesting and our scholars are really intrigued. We'll continue to deep dive this chapter, as we learn and progress. We got this Tigers!!
Team 5th Grade
Creative Arts
Superior Specials News!
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.
Music
Hello!!! K has finished doing activities that teaches them the appropriate times to use our voice for talking, singing, shouting, and whispering. 1st & 2nd grade have been learning about weak and strong beats. 3rd grade is creating their own rhythms/patterns using cups. 4th and 5th grade are beginning their group project in creating their own rhythm for the drums and melody for the piano!
Technology
K-1 students practiced: Online Safety & Digital Citizenship: Introduction
This engaging video-based learning activity introduces students to what they will be learning about during the Online Safety and Digital Citizenship unit.
2-5 students have been practicing Home Row keys including the letters v, m, b, n, c, and the comma.
PE
This week we will be continuing to work on our procedures of class in order to prepare us for next weeks activity. Please remember to make sure your scholar is in sneakers! Have a great week!
LEGO
Hello! We are continuing to move through the curriculum and Lego lessons. We will be working on the following:
K-1: XL World: Outdoor Activities
2: Science in Nature & Our Daily Life: Building chicken coops
3: Animals & Their Environment: Animal Behaviors
4-5: Science Connection: Energy Resources.
STEM II
Next week our Kinder & 1st: Continue creating our bats to go along with the story Amara and the bats. We designed and added wings this week.
2nd: Continue creating their structure to protect food. These structures are looking really good!
3rd: Continue building their games.These games are really creative!
4th: This week, scholars will cut out their patterns from the fabric.They are so excited about seeing their designs come to life! Next week, we begin assembling and sewing!
5th: Will complete their shelters and began presenting their commercials and testing their shelters ability to withstand wind and rain in front of the class.
Counselor's Corner!
Hey there, CMIT NES Families! Our K-2 students just wrapped up some awesome lessons on emotions and feelings with the school counselor and now it's time for 3rd through 5th grade to dive in! We're all about recognizing and expressing our BIG emotions in a healthy way. From practicing deep breathing to learning how to talk about what we feel, these sessions will help students navigate anything that comes their way. Get ready to explore how we can calm our minds, take deep breaths, and understand the power of expressing our emotions!
