REFLECTIONS

The "Start Your Art" Workshops are scheduled for Tuesday, October 2 and Wednesday, October 3 for those students who have signed up. Mark your calendars for the WHS Picture Retake Day. This will take place on Tuesday, October 23rd. .

On our last Early Release Day, our WHS staff and students met in their Star Constellations groups. The kindergarten students and all the new students to Hammerschmidt were welcomed to their group during an all-school assembly. Once the assembly was over we met in our groups for about 30 minutes. Each group took a group "selfie", decided on a team name, and did a few getting to know you activities.

By now you probably know that all of our WHS students were asked to complete a "star project" for homework. You should have received your chid(ren)'s group leader's star as a sample. We are asking that the completed student stars be returned to WHS no later than Thursday, Oct. 4th. We will be using these stars for an activity during our next Star Constellations lesson. We greatly appreciate your support with this!

Each month a new habit will be focussed on. Dedicated time is set aside on our Early Release Days where everyone in the school is engaged in lessons and activities related to these habits. These 7 Habits tie in nicely with our "All Star Learners and Leaders" theme. Students demonstrate great leadership by understanding and developing these habits.

The District 44 administrative team has made the decision to NOT administer the FALL MAP test for most students. Only the students who are brand new to the school have or will be given the Fall MAP test in both math and reading.

Instead, District 44 will only administer the MAP Test to all students in the spring. For more information about this decision please click on the link below from Superintendent Ted Stec:

HAMMER'WEEN

Mark your calendars for Hammer'ween! This adult only event will take place on Saturday, October 20th at 7:00pm at O'Neill's Pub in Lombard. Enjoy live music and special raffles! Costumes are optional, but always amusing!! It's a fun night out and a great way to support the PTA! More details to follow! The WHS PTA Halloween Party will take place on Friday, October 26th, from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. During this EVENING event you children (and you) can show off those costumes. Please note, no costumes will be allowed at school during the school day.

Also, during this PTA Event, costume props and accessories that are look-alike weapons will not be allowed.

More information will be coming soon about this fun, family friendly Halloween Party at WHS!
