Bremerton School District
A message from the Superintendent & Bremerton School Board
March 5, 2025
We were saddened and angered to read about the distribution of racist propaganda within our community, as described in a recent Kitsap Sun article. Such acts of intimidation and hate have no place in our community.
We believe that the diversity of Bremerton is one of our community’s - and our District's - greatest strengths. As outlined in the Bremerton School District’s strategic plan, one of our core values is to create a welcoming environment for all students, and to foster a safe, supportive, consistent, and socially just culture for learning, work, and diverse perspectives.
We understand that incidents like this can create fear and anxiety, particularly among our students and families.
Our staff have reached out to the family mentioned in the article to offer our support, and reassure them that hate is not tolerated in our schools. We want to encourage all of our students and families to report any incidents of racial - or any other - discrimination in any of our schools or community to a member of our staff or another trusted adult. We take these situations very seriously.
We want to thank our students, staff and families for their support and partnership as we work to create a school community where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background.
Donna Colosky
Interim Superintendent
