Cal Grant Deadline
May 2nd - Priority Deadline for 2024-2025 Financial Aid Applications
Students should complete FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application before May 2 to be considered for Cal Grant and Middle Class Scholarship in the 2024-25 academic year.

Prom
Saturday, May 18 at 7pm
Prom is at Venue 808 from 7-11pm. The theme is Enchanted. Tickets are on sale now but ALL students must be cleared before purchasing tickets.

Helix student clearance forms are available at the attendance office. Bring the completed clearance form(s) to the student store (the Dawg House) and purchase a prom ticket for $65 through May 10th.
Students who purchased a prom reservation during summer registration, must still complete the clearance process and present that form at the student store beginning April 22nd. Please email JYEAGLE@HELIXCHARTER.NET if you're not sure if you purchased one.
Tickets purchased May 13th - May 15th will be priced at $70.
Parking is not included in the Prom ticket price. Information on parking options will be sent to students once tickets go on sale. Cost of parking is estimated to be between $10 and $30 per vehicle.
Guest Tickets: Students can pick up guest clearance forms at the Grade Level Team’s office starting on Tuesday, April 16th. If purchasing a ticket for a non-Helix guest, the guest clearance form must be completed in order to purchase a ticket for that guest.

Grad Night Chaperones Needed
The Helix PTSA is in need of additional chaperones to assist with Class of 2024 Grad Night. Parents with children attending Grad Night interested in attending free of charge as a group chaperone can contact Katie Smith at katiem_smith@yahoo.com. Chaperones will be asked to attend the entire event, including riding the buses to and from the event, beginning afternoon Sunday, June 9 overnight to the morning of Monday, June 10.

Spring Fling - Wednesday, May 1 from 5pm - 7pm
Helix's annual Spring Fling Showcase for incoming freshmen is coming up! Helix Academics, Arts, Activities and Athletic programs will be showcased throughout the event allowing families to get acquainted with the many curricular and extracurricular programs offered at Helix. Incoming 9th Graders will receive a complimentary meal ($5 ea. for additional family members). Students will be able to sign-up for school athletic teams, clubs, and service organizations. Teachers will be available to provide information and answer questions regarding Helix academics and students from the Helix Performing Arts Programs will perform. Helix Dance Performance - May 9 & 10 at 7pm
Helix Dance presents their Spring Dance Concert titled Dancing Through the Decades. This will feature student-choreographed and faculty-choreographed works. Please join us and support the Helix Dance Program. Buy tickets here. All ticket sales will be online only, no physical day-of box office sales. Pre-sale price for all tickets is $12/person, all ages general admission. Pre-sale ticketing price will be available until 12 hours before each performance. Chess the Musical - May 2, 3, 4 at 7pm
This musical will be performed on the Helix mainstage theater on April 30, May 2, 3, 4 at 7pm with an understudy matinée on May 4 at 2pm. PURCHASE TICKETS HERE. In this musical, Chess becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, competitive gamesmanship, super-power politics, and international intrigue. From Bangkok to Budapest, the players, lovers, politicians and spies manipulate and are manipulated to the pulse of a score that includes “One Night in Bangkok” and “Heaven Help My Heart.”
ASPIRE Summer Camp - June 10 - 28
Get ready for Summer Camp right here at Helix! These camps are FREE for all Helix students going in to grades 10-12. The official lineup with emailed to all families shortly.
Brave Empowerment Event for Girls at the Kroc Center - Saturday, May 4 from 4-8pm
This fun & free event at the Kroc Center will educate and connect girls with community resources! There will be Powerful speakers and testimonies, DJ, Dinner provided by In and Out, Inflatables, Yoga, Glam zone featuring hair and nails, Resource Fair, Raffle, A Swag Bag stuffed with a journal, pen, free guest passes for our facility and other goodies and more!
City of La Mesa Career Expo
Everyone from the Helix community is invited to attend the City of La Mesa's Career Fair. There will be information about local jobs and training programs.
Family First Info Nights
Every Thursday at 6pm, Helix staff or special guests present on different topics applicable to high school parents. These events are held in the Helix Library and are open to the public! NCAA Eligibility Workshop via ZOOM - Thursday, May 2 at 6pm
Interested in participating in college athletics? Come get the latest information on the NCAA eligibility process from Damon Chase, Athletic Director and Kathryn Welch, Assistant Athletic Director.

Helix's Sustainability Work - Thursday, May 9 from 6-7pm
Kevin Myron, Science Teacher and Sustainability Coordinator, will present on all of the exciting work Helix is doing to improve our sustainability including new recycling, Green Schools Conference attendance, research on sustainability in schools, and more. He will cover our new Student Office of Sustainability and students from that office with share. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions, express concerns and share ideas about this work. We are also interested in hearing from Helix parents and community members who may be interested in being on a new Sustainability Advisory Board to oversee the implementation of a sustainability action plan.This event will be held in the Helix library from 6-7pm. Medicine Pathway Info Night - Wednesday, May 16 from 6-7pm
Come learn about the Sports Medicine Pathway classes (Beginning Sports Med & Advanced Sports Med) from teacher and CTE pathway leader Kathryn Welch. We will cover the expectations, workload and requirements to be successful in this class. This event will be held in the Helix Library. Registration not required. English Learner Info Night (ELAC) & Celebration - Thursday, May 23 from 6-7pm
This event is open to new and existing students to learn about our English Learner program. We will greet our incoming students and hear from past students. We will also celebrate our students who have been reclassified in an RFEP Ceremony! This event will be held in the Helix Library. Dinner provided and catered by one of our Helix families! Doors open at 5:45. Registration is required here for food ordering purposes. Please indicate if translation is needed on the registration form.

- May 1st is the deadline for many colleges to submit your intent to register (SIR)

Club College - Every Thursday After School
Seniors and their families are welcome to drop in to Club College in room 180 (The College and Career Center) anytime between 3:35pm-6:00pm on Thursdays after school to get help with any college, scholarship, or financial aid related questions.

The Helix Charter High School PTSA is proud to announce its annual Scholarship Application for the Class of 2024!
**APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 11:59pm ON MAY 10th, 2024**

Be sure to read all directions and information carefully. Answer the short-answer questions, and also include three brief (250-350 word) essays on the topics addressed on the application form. Please also include a letter of recommendation from a Helix Charter High School staff member and/or a community member.

Jim Thompson Conservation Scholarship
The Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County (RCDGSDC) invites local high school students to apply for our annual Jim Thompson Conservation Scholarship! The deadline is May 6th.
Up to seven scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to senior students pursuing further education in the fields of resource conservation, environmental science, biology, sustainability, or agriculture.
Eligible candidates must:
Be a resident within the RCD of Greater San Diego County’s sphere of influence (see the application for a map).
Have successfully completed three years of study at an accredited high school.
Be nearing completion of their fourth year of high school while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
Expect, or have received, a “notice of intent” to enroll in undergraduate college courses related to resource conservation, agriculture, or biology.
All applications must be completed and submitted online. You will need a valid Google account to access the application. To apply, click here and complete the google application by 11:59pm Monday, May 6th, 2024.

Community Service Graduation Requirement
All students are required to complete a total of 40 community service hours as part of Helix's graduation requirements. If you have not yet completed your hours to fulfill this graduation requirement, please contact your Academic Advisor ASAP at: naranjo@helixcharter.net.

Become a Homework Coach at the La Mesa Library
The La Mesa Branch Library is offering a student volunteer opportunity for students that have at least a 3.0 GPA. They have launched a new program called “Homework Help” for K-8th graders. Email Denise at lamesalibrary@sdcounty.ca.gov for more information.
