McDill Elementary Parent Newsletter
February/March 2024
Hello Timberwolf Families,
I really appreciate the flexibility and understanding from our school community when I was out of the building for a few weeks after my wife and I welcomed our third child. My family is doing great, and I’m very thankful for the time I was able to spend with them. My wife is a teacher, but currently is a stay-at-home mom. After spending those weeks at home, I can say that I have the easier job between the two of us!
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our parent teacher conferences; it is always great for our staff to be able to connect with our students’ parents and guardians. If you were unable to attend conferences, hopefully you were able to touch base with your child’s teacher for a progress update.
The warm temperatures have us excited for the upcoming spring season and the fun activities which come with that time of year. Spring break is right around the corner with no school from March 18th through March 22nd. Please note that students in grades 3 - 6 will be taking the Forward Exam after we return from break. A letter explaining these assessments will be mailed out within the next week.
The school year is going by quickly; and we are so appreciative of all the hard work and support from our staff, students and families! It has been another great school year. Thanks for all you do. Have a great spring!
Joe Sbertoli, Principal

HEALTHY SNACK CHOICES
The Stevens Point Area Public School District is committed to promoting a healthy school environment where students are able to attend school with minds and bodies ready to take advantage of their learning environment. The District Wellness Committee works to provide guidance as it relates to student nutrition and physical activity and promotes positive life-long eating habits through education and awareness.
The “Healthy Snacks for Our Classroom” was developed by the District Wellness Committee for use in the elementary classroom and for families of elementary-aged students to educate and promote healthy snack choices. It is, obviously, not a requirement that students bring in only treats or snacks from this list, but it does give families the option and the “permission” to send in snacks that can be a benefit to their students’ health.
Please take a look at this infographic for GREAT, HEALTHY SNACK OPTIONS which could be sent with your child to school!
NOON OPTIMISTS YOUTH OF THE MONTH
We congratulate 6th grader, Sophia Swenson, a well-deserving recipient of this annual award! According to her teacher, Sophia is a young lady who exceeds expectations inside and outside of the classroom, coming to school each day with a positive attitude and a smile. She is focused and works extremely hard, always giving her best effort. Sophia is very kind to her peers and works well with others. In fact, one of her best qualities is the way she celebrates the successes of others. Sophia has many achievements of her own, but is never boastful; and this humble nature is something that her teachers and peers truly admire about her.
Sophia is always willing to lend a hand to students in our school. As a member of safety cadets, she has taken on the role and responsibility of cadet captain. Lastly, in addition to cadets, she is also a member of student council, orchestra, and after-school volleyball and basketball, while continuing to maintain superior grades. Each morning her teacher looks forward to being greeted with, “Good morning Miss Worzella!” and a smile. She also leaves the room each day with that same smile, saying “Have a good night, Miss Worzella. See you tomorrow.”
When out in the community, Sophia carries herself in the same respectful manner, displaying maturity and self-control. Sophia truly exemplifies what it means to be a McDill Timberwolf and has an incredibly bright future ahead of her. The sky's the limit!
