Message from the Principal
Welcome to the sixth week of school year 2024-2025 and the beginning of October.
I would like to thank all of our parents and guardians for attending our Back-To-School night last Thursday evening. We had a wonderful turnout and we appreciate those who came to listen to us speak about our academic and behavior support plan for this school year. If you were unable to make it last week, I have posted two presentations below.
Please see the posts from our fabulous PTA regarding our Fall Book Fair which begins on Monday, 9/30 and ends on Wednesday, 10/2 with a Book Fair nighttime event planned on Tuesday, 10/1 from 5-7PM. In addition, our Race for Education, Read and Run will take place at school during recess on Friday, 10/4.
Please remember that there is no school for students on Thursday, October 3rd. Teachers will be participating in professional learning.
A few very important reminders:
- School Hours: Students' instructional day begins at 9:15 am and dismissal begins at 3:45pm. During the first week of school, we expect the traffic to take longer and appreciate your patience to drive slowly and carefully in the school zone. Please remember to remain in your vehicle when dropping students off and picking students up from school. No student can be dropped off at the front of the building before school hours.
- Main Office Hours: The main office hours are 8:30 am - 4:15 pm. Please remember that our office is extremely busy at this time of the school year. It is best to call before visiting the office and our busiest times are during the hours of 8:30 - 10:30 AM and 2:30 - 4:00 PM, especially the first week of school. Please remember that we must work together to ensure the safety of our students and that we follow all district rules and regulations pertaining to custody arrangements and such.
- Early Dismissal: A note/email should be sent in the morning to CNAttendance@casdschools.org. The note for early dismissals should contain:
Student Name/Teacher/Date and Time of Dismissal/Reason/Name of Adult picking up and relationship/Parent Signature and parent daytime phone#. It is very important to get these notes into your child's teacher or to the main office as early as possible but definitely prior to 2:00 pm.
All early dismissals should be completed at the main office by 3:15. Students must be signed out by then. Any dismissal change requests taking place after 3:15 will be in the parent pick-up line or may be declined for the safety of our students.
The adult picking up any child must bring a government issued Photo ID (preferably a driver’s license) and be listed as a parental or emergency contact.
Refillable water bottles: Caln has transitioned to bottle filling stations. Students should bring a refillable water bottle to school.
Transportation: You should have already received bus information. A nationwide bus driver shortage is impacting many districts, including Coatesville, and may lead to increased delays. Buses normally run late the first two weeks of school as students and drivers become accustomed to their routes. We appreciate your patience. Students must follow the rules of the bus, listen to the drivers and be respectful to the drivers.
Parent-Pick-Up Notes: Thank you for having patience with us as we work to make our afternoon dismissal more efficient. If your child needs to be picked up for an early dismissal or rides a school bus, please help us with this by sending a parent pick-up note into school with your child(ren) or email cnattendance@casdschools.org.
Student First Day Back-to-School Folders: Each student will be bringing home important folders which will contain important information to read (on the left-hand side) and important information to read, Sign and Return (on the right-hand side). Please be sure to return all signed paperwork by Friday, Sept., 13th.
School Calendars: Start planning ahead! This year, we have provided a Caln Events Calendar to each student (in the folders) and I will add each month's events to the weekly news. Please check out Can's website for more important information.
Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS): We practice 3 important expectations at Caln: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY & SAFETY.
Best,
Dr. Lennon

Nurse Notes 👩🏻⚕️🩺
Sept 30, 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I have enjoyed being your student’s School Nurse for the past 5 years. You are in good hands with Nurse Gabby Rowland. Have a wonderful School Year. I wish you the best!
Sincerely,
Caren Diamond
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Just wanted to sent you some information. We are already having some illnesses at Caln. If your child has a fever or vomiting, please make sure they are fever or vomit free for 24 hours before returning to school. Students also need a Drs. note if they miss more than two days of school.
I have had meds sent into school but without Drs. Orders. It is important for me to have a written Drs. Order before I can give your child medicine. The medicine also needs to be in the original bottle with the prescription information on it. I also need a parent consent form signed for me to give the medicine.
For Kindergarteners and older students starting at Caln it is very important that I be given their immunization information. I will contact you if your child needs updated immunizations. We will also need a dental and physical exam from within the last year for their Health Room Record.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me.
Sincerely,
Nurse Gabby Rowland

A Message from the TECHNOLOGY DEPT.
Dear CASD Parents and Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you well. As we continue to embrace technology as an integral part of our educational environment, we want to ensure that your child’s school-issued device is well-protected. To this end, in leu of our previous TIF, we are offering optional insurance coverage for these devices to help mitigate any potential costs associated with accidental damage, loss, or theft, outside of any warranty covered repairs.
Why Device Insurance?
School-issued devices are an important tool for learning, and while we strive to take great care of them, accidents can happen. Device insurance provides peace of mind and financial protection by covering repair or replacement costs due to unforeseen circumstances.
What computer insurance covers
A stand-alone computer insurance policy through Progressive includes coverage for perils (laptop theft, vandalism, fire damage, and more) and unexpected accidents such as:
- Water damage (including liquid spills and submersion)
- Damage from dropping or stepping on your laptop
- Power surges due to lightning
What laptop insurance doesn't cover
Laptop insurance doesn't cover everything. Some exclusions are:
- Computer viruses
- Wear and tear or corrosion
- Software issues
- Blatant neglect
All policies and claims are the sole ownership of the Parents and Guardians.
Complete details and common questions can be found at the following link: https://www.progressive.com/electronic-device-insurance/computer-laptop-insurance/
Lastly, for anyone that has already paid a TIF for the 2024-2025 school year, the district will be issuing those families a full refund.
Sincerely,
CASD Office of Technology
