Jamestown School Committee Meeting Format
At its October 24 meeting, the Jamestown School Committee adopted a meeting structure that allows for productive and efficient meetings. Each month, the Jamestown School Department will schedule two School Committee meetings. The first meeting will be a workshop meeting. The second meeting will be a business meeting. Both meetings will allow opportunity for public comment.
Workshop meetings
Usually held on the second Thursday of each month
Used to prepare for the upcoming business meeting - this will be an opportunity to discuss anything already scheduled to be on the agenda for the business meeting
This meeting will also be used for student presentations and/or other staff informational presentations
Should it be determined that a workshop meeting is not needed, it can be canceled
Business meetings
Usually held on the fourth Thursday of each month
Any item requiring action by the School Committee, will be included on the business meeting agenda
Attendance and enrollment updates will be shared
All committee reports will be shared
Unless in case of an extreme emergency or some other unforeseen circumstance beyond our control, business meetings will never be canceled
This format can be flexible as needed. For example, a vote might be needed at a first meeting, or a presentation may need to take place at a second meeting, etc. Another exception would be during budget season. Because more time and attention are required when preparing next year’s budget, extra meetings may be scheduled during that time devoted to working on the budget.
We are hoping that the clearer distinction will be helpful to our stakeholders and community
for the purpose of the public knowing which meetings of the month they can depend on likely taking place, as well as knowing the general purpose of the two meetings.

November 7, 2024 - Workshop meeting
November 21, 2024 - Business meeting
December 12, 2024 - Business meeting
Unless otherwise reported, all meetings will take place at the JamestownTown Hall, located at 93 Narragansett Ave, and will begin at 6:00 pm.
