Unified Arts
This month in our STEAM classes, students are diving into exciting hands-on projects and problem-solving challenges that connect the dots between technology, creativity, and real-world applications.
Our youngest innovators are exploring programming patterns in everyday life! By reviewing games like Get 10 and Dots and Boxes, students are discovering how strategy and coding connect to decision-making and problem-solving. They’re learning to see technology as a tool for creative thinking.
The Scratch wizards in 4th grade are stepping up their coding game! They’re animating and coding characters to create motion and tell stories. From moving characters to interactive animations, they’re bringing their imaginations to life while building a strong foundation in computational thinking.
Our 5th graders are pushing the boundaries of innovation! They’re diving into robotics through the VEXX curriculum, learning how machines and code come together. They’re also exploring the fascinating world of generative AI and quantum computing to understand how these emerging technologies are shaping the future.
The 6th graders are engineering Skimmers—hand-built vehicles designed to glide across the floor for over 100 feet. With just a manila folder, some creativity, and teamwork, these students are mastering aerodynamics and testing the limits of their designs.
Through these engaging projects, our students are discovering how science, technology, engineering, art, and math come together to inspire innovation and make learning fun. Stay tuned to see what they’ll create next!
3rd Grade
This month’s community meeting was all about the A in DREAM: actively participating in learning. We focused specifically on perseverance and how to use a growth mindset when tasks get challenging or it gets more difficult to focus this time of year.
4th Grade
In their recent science unit, fourth graders showcased their understanding of how internal and external animal structures contribute to growth and survival in various environments through an engaging STEAM activity. Each student was assigned a habitat and tasked with inventing an animal equipped with at least three structural adaptations to thrive in that environment.
As part of the project, students explained in writing how these structures supported their animal’s survival, created detailed diagrams illustrating the structures, and brought their ideas to life by building a model of their animal.
The unit concluded with an Animal Adaptation Showcase, where students proudly presented their projects to family and friends. This event provided an opportunity for students to share their learning and demonstrate how external structures enable animals to adapt and thrive in their environments.
5th Grade
This month, 5th Graders started their Project Lead the Way unit focusing on Matter: Properties and Reactions. Students conducted experiments to investigate the Law of Conservation of Matter. Everyone loved being hands on scientists and participating in this hands on lab!
