BHMS Reach for the Heights Fundraiser - Update
A Call for Support to Reach Our Goal!
Dear Families and Supporters,
We are reaching out with a heartfelt request for your assistance in our mission to achieve our goal! We are incredibly thankful for the support we have received so far, and we are excited to share that, thanks to the generosity of our community, we have raised an amazing $2,167 in donations.
However, we still have $1,833 to go to reach our target of $4,000 by the end of October and celebrate with our very first School Social of the 2024-2025 school year!
With just $40 from each family, we can make significant progress towards our ultimate goal of $20,000. This funding will provide new books, supplies for robotics and design tech classes, PBIS rewards for our student store, math tutoring, and much more.
Your support is important, and we appreciate any contribution you can make. Together, we can create an incredible experience for our students!
Thank you for your generosity!

Battle of the Books (BOB)
The 24-25 Battle of the Books list was released early this year! Visit the BVSD BOB website to read more about the program and see the books on Middle School lists.
Students need to find teams of 4-5 people, as well as a sponsor, for their team. Teams MUST be registered with Mrs. Rule (jolene.rule@bvsd.org) by October 18th.
The reading list is available on the BVSD website if students would like to get a head start on reading! Mx. Brandin has pulled these titles in the library, Mrs. Rule has purchased all the books, and most titles will also be available as ebooks and audiobooks in Sora in October.
Parents, if you would like to sponsor a team, you will need to ensure that you are following the volunteer process on the BVSD Website. Please contact Mrs. Rule if you have further questions.

Counseling Corner - Mindfulness (Needs, Routine, and Helping Your Student)
Welcome to Fall, everyone! As the leaves change colors and the air becomes crisp, it's the perfect time to embrace mindfulness and make the most of this beautiful season with your tweens.
Let's talk about Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Just like how we need food and water to survive, we also need to take care of our mental and emotional well-being. Encouraging your tweens to practice mindfulness, such as taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature around them, can help fulfill their higher-level needs for self-esteem and self-actualization.
Next, Consider the 1% change concept from the book "Atomic Habits." Making small, positive changes each day can lead to big improvements over time. For example, encourage your tweens to spend just 10 minutes a day doing something they enjoy, like reading, drawing, or going for a walk. These small, consistent actions can have a big impact on their overall well-being.
Finally, as parents/caretakers, you can help your tweens navigate through the challenges of Middle School using the gradual release method "I do, we do, you do." Notice what is hard for them, then work on tasks together, and eventually, allow them to take the lead with your support. This approach can help build their confidence and independence as they transition through this important stage of their lives.
You do it for them (they watch)
You do it with them
You watch them do it
They do it on their own
So, as we welcome Fall, let's remember to embrace mindfulness, make small positive changes, and support our tweens as they navigate through this exciting time. Here's to a fun and fulfilling Fall season for all!
