We are really looking forward to Term 2, especially with the arrival of Mr Hunt. It is an exciting time for us all and we cannot wait to immerse Ryves into the Vogeltown culture and share our wonderful 'Vogeltown Way' with him and his whānau.
Our learning focus for Term 2 is linked to our IROCK value of 'Kindness' - kindness to ourselves, to others and to our whenua. We also have learning conferences, Yr 5/6 interschool sports, Spellathon and many more 'Vogeltown' activities!
On a personal note, I would like to express my gratitude to the Vogeltown Board of Trustees, teachers, students, and community for the tremendous amount of support and kindness that has been extended to me this term. I am deeply appreciative of the trust you have placed in me during this transitional phase for our school.
Have a wonderful holiday break, make memories and we can't wait to have you all back on the 29th of April.
Aroha nui,
Mrs Seed and the VS team
PAETOKI HIKOI TO THE MOVIES
Today the Paetoki Syndicate were fortunate enough to watch “The Mountain”, which is a movie made in New Zealand, starring a New Zealand cast, including former Vogeltown student Reuben Francis (who starred as Mallory Potts). We have been studying the mountain throughout the term and this was a great way to conclude the topic.
The movie had a strong theme of spiritual and cultural connection with the maunga, and at the same time included some good old kiwi humour.
The kids did lots of singing on the bus ride there, and had 2 whole cinemas to ourselves! We had a wet but fun walk back to school.
After lunch, Reuben kindly came to school to host a Q&A session, which all the children loved. He answered all their questions and we were very proud at how engaged they all were while listening to him.
A big thanks to the Home and School Committee for sponsoring this amazing day out, and thanks to all the parents that came along to help.
ANZAC CROSSES
On the 25th of April (2nd week of the school holidays) it is ANZAC Day.
ANZAC Day is important because it honours brave soldiers from New Zealand and Australia who fought in World War I. It helps us learn about history, respect veterans and understand values like courage and empathy. Remembering ANZAC Day is like saying thank you to those who served and reminds us to cherish peace. It's a special day to show respect and appreciation.
Beside our school bell, Room 15 and Mr George have placed our very special ANZAC crosses. If you have time in the holidays, feel free to come and have a look at them.
SCHOOL GOAL THIS TERM - 'COURAGEOUS'
LEARNING CONFERENCES - TERM 2
Our learning conferences are being held on Wednesday 1 May from 2:30pm to 7:30pm, and on Thursday 2 May from 2:30pm to 6:15pm. We will arrange for supervision of our learners on both of these days from 2:30pm until 3:00pm. You can book your interviews using the Skool Loop App - instructions on how to book are below. These learning conferences are really important to discuss your child's progress for Term 1 and set their learning goals for Term 2. We always aim for 100% attendance at these learning conferences.
If you have trouble using the Skool Loop app then please call the school office to book a time.
SCHOOLDOCS - VOGELTOWN POLICIES
Our school policies, like many schools, are now in an online system through a portal called 'Schooldocs'. Any time you want to bring up a school policy, just log in to schooldocs and you can access the policies.
The login is: vogeltown
The password: huatoki
The website link to Schooldocs is below.
VOGELTOWN SCHOOL FEES/DONATION
A reminder to everyone that we do not ask for a school donation/fee at Vogeltown School. The Vogeltown Board opted in to the Ministry of Education donation scheme for 2023, which means we get paid a donation from the government and we do not ask families to contribute to any 'curriculum related' costs - including transport and events like Life Education.
More information can be found on the Ministry of Education's website.
KA KITE ANO WHANAU
Stay safe and be kind to each other. Thank you for the ongoing support of Vogeltown School, we appreciate the community we live in. Have a great break with your families and we look forward to seeing all our learners in Term 2.
On behalf of the Vogeltown team,
Ka kite ano
