Week of 10/7/2024
A Message From Mr. Johnson:
Happy Friday, Sandhill Families!
Here are some important updates as we finish up the week:
We will be holding a School Safety Drill this week. Please remind your children about the importance of these drills and how they help keep everyone safe.
Picture Retakes are also on October 8th. If your child missed the original photo day or needs a new photo, please make sure they’re ready!
Youth Night at Collins Field is coming up! Please remember the sportsmanship expectations shared by the Badger Conference. Positive sportsmanship is key, and profanity, degrading remarks, or intimidating actions directed at officials, competitors, or other spectators will not be tolerated. These behaviors are grounds for removal from the event. Additionally, all children must be supervised. We encourage everyone to bring a positive attitude and support our athletes and coaches!
October 9th is National Bike to School Day! Encourage your child to ride their bike to school as we celebrate this event promoting a healthy and fun way to get to school.
It’s time to sign up for Family Conferences on 10/23 and 10/24! You can find the sign-up links below.
This week, we had our first winners of the traveling Golden Stella Awards! These trophies celebrate positive behavior in different areas of the school. Pictures of the winners are below.
Thank you for your continued support, and have a wonderful weekend!
Bob/Mr. Johnson

Good evening, Sandhill Families & Friends!
We hope everyone enjoyed the weekend! Our October calendar is filling up, so please take a look at what we have going on and mark your calendars. We have some really fun events planned as well as some great volunteer opportunities!
UPCOMING EVENTS!
SANDHILL READ-A-THON - Starting October 7!
Working for Kids is again sponsoring a Read-a-Thon leading up to the fall Scholastic Book Fair. The 6th Annual Read-a-Thon starts in two weeks and will run from October 7-18. More information about the Read-a-thon as well a Reading Log and Pledge Sheet will come home in red folders by Friday, October 4.
We want to make sure every student Has an opportunity to reach their reading goals, and so we are asking for volunteers (parents, grandparents, community members) to come in during morning recess for grades K-2 to read to our younger students. Students LOVE having guests come and read to them, and I'm pretty sure our guest readers enjoy it, as well!
Sign up to read to our younger readers during recess!
Paint Night - Tuesday, October 8!
Our first fun fall event is just around the corner! Mark your calendars and join us on Tuesday, 10/8 for a Paint Night! There are 28 spots available, and the cost is $30/pair. Creative Canvases with Sara provides the supplies and helps students create a fun piece of art. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Please see the sign up for more information.
NATIONAL BIKE & WALK TO SCHOOL DAY - 10/9
October 9th is National Walk & Bike to School Day. We want to make it safe and easy for students to get to school! Walking and biking to school provides practical experience with regards to road safety and encourages a healthy lifestyle.
FALL FESTIVAL - 10/18
Mark your calendar for our annual Fall Festival on Friday, October 18 from 5pm-7pm. Kids can win prizes playing carnival games, create fall art, get photos taken, race in an inflatable obstacle course, and enjoy the Kona ice truck. We'll also be offering pizza (for purchase) and snacks.
This is one of our biggest events of the year, and so please consider volunteering to help! We need donations of healthy snacks and sweet treats for our concession area, plus volunteers to run carnival games and crafts stations at the event. Grandparents and responsible middle and high school students are welcome to volunteer, too! Thank you for your help in making the Sandhill Fall Festival a success again this year!

It could be volunteering with or coordinating a single event, helping with staff appreciation, or taking on a leadership role within the group.
