Thank a Teacher
Thank a Teacher, Spread the Love this Valentine's Day!
Teaching is a work of heart, and our incredible teachers across West Ada School District give their all to inspire, nurture, and empower our students every day!
This Valentine's Day, show your appreciation by making a donation to the West Ada School District Education Foundation. Every dollar goes directly into the classroom, providing new resources and enriching experiences for your child and their peers!
Let’s make a difference together! https://www.westada.org/page/thank-a-teacher?fbclid=IwY2xjawH2F-VleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHXR3CvAkjjlLOk9D7QzAG8kj779v6wB3hbpLBfGhuFLhof-DjC1Owzc8MQ_aem_Xj_MDFUWx-K4UJWnmig9yg
GROWING TOGETHER, LEARNING FOREVER
PRONGHORN PRIDE
Congratulations to this group of students who received recognition for being a great example of what it means to be a PVE Pronghorn. These students were caught modeling a school-wide expectation. Way to be #PronghornStrong!
CELEBRATING GROWTH
Congratulations to Mrs. Robertson's 2nd Grade Class
Our class created a goal that we would read 2500 words fluently! After everyone finished their one-minute reads, we calculate the whole class to have read 2505 word!!!!!!! Congratulations to these fluency flyers.
WASD ART COMPETITION: Entries DUE Next Friday!
It is time for the annual District Art Show artwork projects to begin. The District Art Show is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Submissions for this competition are due to the front office by February 7, 2025.
This year, the theme for elementary will be “Celebrate Idaho.”
*Please note: PVE may only send ONE piece to the district office for the art show, so we will narrow down the submission and have staff and student voting to help chose our winning piece to represent PVE.
**Please make sure you follow the district guidelines for the submission and do not place student name on the front of the piece. Use buttons below for all information.
It's time for our annual Canned Food Drive! This year, we’re excited to recognize the top class in the entire school with a pizza party!
In addition, there will be a grade-level competition, with the winning class in each grade earning game time with Mrs. Senethavilay.
We know our community is incredibly generous, and we deeply appreciate the efforts of our students and families. Your contributions make a meaningful impact, and we are grateful for your support in helping our Student Council with this outstanding project.
Thank you for partnering with us to make a difference!
ROARING READER
It's time to begin the Roaring Readers Reading Program! You may have noticed a pink reading chart in your child's folder. Please keep this!
Your child has a reading chart to complete to earn one free day pass for Roaring Springs Waterpark. They are encouraged to read for 600 minutes (or 800 minutes for 5th graders). Next, they must fill out the reading chart, (kindergarteners and first graders might need a little assistance with this task), and return to school no later than Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Directions and extra copies are attached. I will also have copies in a folder on the bulletin board outside of the library and in my mailbox for teachers to disperse. Or you are welcome to use any lined paper and attach with the pink reading chart. This chart sounds like a daunting task, but we have run the numbers together and if they are already reading 20 minutes/evening, they could finish this reading chart in 6/8 weeks!
Let's make this a successful program and encourage recreational reading at home/outside of school! Students do not have to participate in this program, but it definitely is a great way to encourage reading! Thanks for your partnership! If you have any questions, please email kaler.jen@westada.org.
SAFETY
COLD WEATHER REMINDERS
Please be sure to send your child to school ready for the elements. If the temperatures are above 20 degrees, including wind chill, we are outside for recess. Unless there is a doctor's note for reasons a student cannot be outside, ALL students are expected to go out. Snow does not stop our play time, nor does a little sprinkle of rain.
Also, if you worry about your child's clothes potentially getting wet, please send them with a backup outfit, as the school does not have enough clothing for those who tend to enjoy playing in the snow.
Motorized Scooters and Bike
Just a reminder to all families that any items used for transportation to school by students must be walked on campus, this includes motorized scooters we are seeing. "Riding skateboards, bikes, roller skates, scooters, shoes with wheels, and roller blades on school property is prohibited." Please refer to the Elementary Student Handbook under Items Inappropriate for School.

FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Cold and Flu Season
With cold and flu season upon us, here are some quick reminders for when students should remain home:
- Fever greater than 100.0 degrees: A fever lets us know that our body is fighting an infection. We are contagious during this time and need rest. Students should be fever free for at least 24 hours, without fever reducing medication, before returning to school.
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea: Students should stay home for 24 hours without vomiting diarrhea before returning to school to make sure they can keep food/liquids down.
- Sore throat with a fever greater than 100.0 degrees: Students should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. If they are diagnosed with Strep throat, then they should stay home until they have been on the prescribed antibiotics and are fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
- Students should stay home if they have a new onset persistent cough in which they are coughing so much it keeps them from participating in class or disrupts their classmates. Student may return when their cough is no longer disruptive to the educational environment and/or the student is cleared to return to school by their health care provider.
*There may be exceptions. Please contact your school nurse with any questions.

ATTENDANCE
New this year, we have an automated system for calls! Don't worry, we are still answering calls as the first option; we know talking to someone right away is important. However, after business hours our phone to immediately change to an automated system. During business hours, the automated voicemail system will pick up after 4 rings, indicating that the front office staff is either on the phone or helping someone in the office.
You will have the option of the following when the automated system answers:
Press 1 for Office
Press 2 for Attendance
Press 3 for Health Office
Press 4 for Transportation
If you are simply calling to report your child's attendance, you may call 208-350-4498.
