As you know, parking and pick-up and drop off around Bridge Street School is a real challenge, especially during the winter months. With snow and ice making parking at Bridge Street a real challenge, isn't it time for your family to start using the Walking School Bus? Led by our experienced and friendly "drivers", the WSB is a safe and easy to use pedestrian alternative to driving your child to school! The Northern Route of the WSB begins each morning at 8:10 a.m. on Crosby Street, proceeds down North Street, then heads up Parsons Street, arriving at BSS at 8:40 a.m. (please note the later start time of 8:10 and corresponding changes in Route stop times--view the Route map for more information).
And one of the great things about the WSB is that you don't have to actually live along the Northern Route to take advantage of the bus--you can live on the outer edges of the BSS district and still drop your child off at any of the stops along the Route so that you don't have to fight for parking at the school! Check out the Route map for all stop locations and times. So start the new year off right by joining other BSS families on the WSB who are committed to reducing traffic congestion around the school, contributing to a sustainable environment and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Contact Roni Gold or Stephanie Pouliot if you have questions or would like additional information about the WSB.
This will be our last month of having our celebrations on Mondays. Celebrations will change to Thursdays on February 8th. We do this in order for our art classes to be able to present during a celebration and our art teacher is only at BSS on Thursdays and Fridays. Mr. Zyskowski's 4th grade class will be presenting this Monday. We hope you can all join us.
My January Principal's Chat will be held on Tuesday, January 16th from 8:35-9:30 a.m. in the library. Coffee and pastries will be served. Come join me to talk about new initiatives, concerns or questions, or anything you want. I look forward to seeing you.
Please stay warm...and I wish you all good health and happiness in 2018!

Girls On The Run (GOTR)
We are so thrilled that Girls on the Run (GOTR) will be back at Bridge Street School again this Spring!
GOTR is an innovative after school program that inspires girls to be joyful, confident and healthy, while using an experienced-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. The program encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others: it's about girl power. No prior running experience necessary!
The program will run for ten weeks Tuesdays and Wednesdays 3-4:30pm at Bridge St starting in March and going until early June. After the holidays we'll send home sign-up forms for the girls. There is a sliding scale for this program and financial aid is available for anyone and everyone - no girl will be turned away.
For now, we are looking for two more community/parent volunteers who can help coach. Our goal is 2-3 volunteer coaches each day, with one volunteer serving as the connector and able to volunteer both days. It can be a parent or a community member (doesn't just have to be a BSS person). GOTR will host a coaches training that preps volunteer coaches with a curriculum guide that we can follow each day.
Please send me a note if you are interested in coaching, know someone who may want to coach or just curious to learn more: alexandra.russellb@gmail.com
