October Newsletter
October 2, 2023
Hello Parents and Guardians,
What an amazing start we have had to the 2023-2024 school year! We kicked off the year with another great freshmen orientation day led by our student leaders. The Class of 2027 brings a ton of energy and under the leadership of our upperclassmen, they are on track to carry on the rich tradition of Red River High. Homecoming Week just wrapped up and Rider Pride was on FULL display. The week was filled with creative dress up days like Adam Sandler Day, lunchroom games, a social media blitz, and an overwhelming amount of school spirit. The annual powderpuff game did not disappoint and was a battle to the finish, but similar to a few years ago, we had some issues with the scoreboard and are not exactly sure who won the game. The week was capped off with our homecoming pep rally where the student council did an amazing job organizing a spirit filled event that was the perfect way to end a great week. At the conclusion of the pep rally, Prince Brody Andrade and Princess Emerson Byron crowned this year’s Homecoming King and Queen, Malik Traore and Jocie Schiller. Overall it was an amazing week filled with rider pride!
We are also coming up on tournament season for our fall athletic. Girls Golf finished as this year's East Region Champions with what is believed to be a state record score of 293. Jaya Grube was the East Region Individual Champion and was also named the East Region Senior Athlete of the Year. The football team is currently 4-3 and are making a strong push for the state playoffs. Boys soccer secured the Cushman Cup for another year and is also making a run to earn on top 4 EDC finish and state tournament berth. Boys tennis is currently the #1 team in the state and are setting themselves up for a state title push. Both the boys and girls XC teams are off to a great start this year with both teams ranked in the top 5 in the state. They just hosted the inaugural Border Battle XC Meet in which Grand Forks welcomed over 2,000 runners to the state’s largest cross country meet! Congrats to the GFC and RRHS XC coaching staff on putting together an amazing event! Volleyball is currently 11-2 in the conference and are sitting in 2nd place as they try position themselves for a home EDC quarterfinal. Finally, girls swimming is off to a great start and are entering the heart of their season looking to improve each and every day!
October also brings the concert and show season. The students have been putting in a ton of effort getting ready for the first concerts of the year and Mr. McFarlane has the fall production “The Brothers Grimm Spetaculation” setting itself up to be a great show that kicks off November 2nd! The dates of our upcoming concerts are below. Good luck to all of our fine arts students! Orchestra (October 16th) Jazz Band (October 30th) Choir (October 26th) Band (November 6th)
