Wisconsin Behavior Threat Assessment Management Training in Chippewa Falls
A multi-organizational team from the Chequamegon School District and the Park Falls Police Department attended a training at Chippewa Falls High School on Wednesday, June 12th. Officer Koller and Officer Zoubek coordinated and discussed with the district team how we handle behaviors and threats while action planning and gaining perspective on each other's roles in serving our students. Shown below, left to right, is the safety team, including Officer Koller, John Oswald (CHS Principal), Jess Folstad (Director of Pupil Services), Officer Zoubek, Sarah Graceffa (North Campus School Counselor), Kacey Hanson ( North Campus Principal) and Not Pictured, Kelly & Daren Patterson (CHS and PFES School Counselors, respectively).
This course was designed to provide school administrators, mental health professionals, security personnel, and law enforcement with an understanding of why threat assessment is important to school violence prevention. Topics included the following: how threat assessment fits in the framework of comprehensive school safety, overview of research and findings related to threat assessment, investigative themes and core concepts of threat assessment, key aspects for creating school-based threat assessment teams and process, how to determine the appropriate response to concerning behavior, and potential strategies for threat management. The training involved lectures, discussions, and tabletop scenarios.
