Founded in 2001, the Foundation has awarded more than $800,000 to Comal ISD in the form of teacher excellence grants, district-wide initiatives and other programming.
CEF programs include:
- Grants to school campuses and teachers for classroom programming;
- District-wide grants to support and expand the school district's goals and curriculum;
- Awards to Teaches of the Year;
- Management of specific endowments for scholarships and grants;
- Recognition of the top graduating seniors and their most influential teachers from the district’s high schools.
All of these activities are made possible through generous donations from corporate partners, parents, CISD employees, private grants and community organizations.

Spotlight on Nutritional Education
We celebrate 2 great events in the month of October:
- 10/9 to 10/13 is National School Lunch Week
- October is Farm to School Month
The Child Nutrition Department is excited to help celebrate both events in style! We are planning several specials for our students to include various new menu items, educational classes and sampling.
During National School Lunch Week, we are outfitting our staff in a “This is How I Roll” t-shirt. Our team of associates will be highlight the importance of a healthy lunch during this special week focused on School Nutrition.
Special events for Farm to School Month will be held each Friday during the month of October. We are excited to partner with the San Antonio Food Bank to utilize their Mobile Mercado for one of those events. The Mobile Mercado is a traveling Farmer’s Market and will give our student s an opportunity to learn about, touch and taste locally grown produce.
Chef Mario will also be visiting several of our campuses holding education classes utilizing locally grown produce. We will give our students stickers who try a new food. These classes will also highlight the nutritional benefit of eating healthy.

14 Customer Service Tips for Coaches, Program Directors and Club Sponsors
1. Get every person affiliated with the group on the same page. Meet with parents before the season/year starts, and supply an outline of necessary supplies, a schedule, and a handout of expectations and requirements (such as grades, attendance policy, etc.) Develop a list of written expectations for participants, and require parents to sign it. The list should also include consequences if expectations are not met. Conduct parent meeting to go over expectations and rules, and complete all paperwork. Provide drinks and snacks for parents, and allow them to discuss areas of concern with you. Conduct this meeting prior to the first practice, rehearsal or group gathering.
2. Set aside office hours to hear and address parents’ concerns. Be sure parents have accurate contact information, so they can get in touch with you if they have any questions.
3. Address any issues you may have with a parent or student in a timely and efficient manner.
4. Communicate to students and to parents that the students are accountable to the program before, during, and after the season/event.
5. Start and end all practices on time. Time is valuable to all people.
6. Get a schedule out early so parents can make plans. Don’t wait until the last minute to let parents know about upcoming practices, rehearsals, workshops, conferences, clinics, performances, matches, or games.
a. Let parents know as soon as possible with a schedule change has occurred.
b. Provide a weekly or a monthly calendar for players and parents with practice dates and times.
c. Provide a schedule with alternate location/time for weather/ school cancellation prior to beginning practice/ training
d. Have a summer schedule of camps, tournaments, and practice schedules
7. Send out newsletters to keep parents informed about team events (winter, spring, summer, and fall).
8. Learn the names of all of the parents and give parents opportunities for involvement. Thank them publicly when they volunteer or provide food items.
9. Maintain confidentiality and privacy about each student. Do not discuss issues about performers, athletes, club members or parents with others on the team, fellow staff members or other parents.
10.Remain with students after practices, performances or games until parents arrive. 11.Establish expectations related to grades and behavior, and monitor them throughout the school year, offering to connect students to support systems like tutoring .
12.Teach students to leave facilities better than they find them. (restaurants, facilities at other schools, hotels) Train students in etiquette, communication skills, and being good ambassadors for the program.
13. Show appreciation to all persons involved in the school program. (administrators, teachers, custodians, secretaries)
14. Involve your program in community service activities.
