GOODNOE GAZETTE
October 18, 2024
Thank you to all of the Goodnoe families that helped to make our fall blood drive through the American Red Cross a success. Every donation can save up to 3 lives and we had 31 successful donors, adding up to 93 potential lives saved! We are holding another drive in the spring, please mark your calendars for Friday, March 11th.
MIKAYLA'S VOICE ASSEMBLY
This past Wednesday, Goodnoe Elementary School was introduced to Mikayla's Voice. This organization shared the story of a young girl named Mikayla and her journey through school as a student with a disability. During the assembly, the presenter read a book called, Our Friend Mikayla, which is this young girl's story, written by her fellow classmates. The students at Goodnoe were an amazing audience during the assembly while embracing the idea of inclusion and friendship. As an added bonus, the organization donated two copies of each book they have published. They are available for students to check-out of the library!
UNITY WEEK
We celebrated Unity Week from October 14-18. Unity week is a time to focus on kindness and raise awareness about bullying prevention. Bullying can be prevented through sharing kindness, promoting acceptance, and encouraging inclusion. Each day of Unity Week we featured a different focus and fun task for students to participate. Goodnoe is united in kindness, acceptance and inclusion for everyone!
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
Beginning Monday, October 21st GES will celebrate Fire Prevention Week! The theme this year is “Smoke alarms; Make them work for you!” Each year we recognize and raise fire safety awareness to help protect families and their homes. The Newtown Fire Department will visit students' classrooms to discuss fire safety. Be sure to ask your child about it!

The third math challenge was released last week and is due Wednesday, October 23. All students in grades K to 6 are invited to participate in this bi-weekly math problem solving activity. This is a great opportunity for families to be involved and enjoy math through fun and engaging math problems. Parents are encouraged to get involved in discussing and solving the problems. Click the link for more information about how to participate https://www.mathinaction.org/goodnoe-elementary.html. Mrs. Gudusky will keep track of student submissions throughout the year. Recognition will be given at the end of the school year for those who regularly participate. More importantly, students' problem-solving abilities will grow! Questions? SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT (PBIS)
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Earlier this week your child brought home a paper copy of the matrix and voice level chart. Please take some time to review the papers with your child. The copies are for you to keep and refer to at home. There is a half sheet of paper for you and your child to sign and return to your child's homeroom teacher. Thank you for your support!
DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children are afraid of animals or have pet allergies; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 105.3 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=AQ5KYB538D2B
