2. Monthly Focus: Boosting Academic Skills & Motivation
Understanding academic achievement
As high schoolers, you are required to meet or exceed requirements for graduation that are set by the Maryland State Board of Education. These requirements can often slip your mind, as you are focused on various challenges in your life. It is imperative though, that you keep these requirements in mind, even when things are hard to do.
Keeping up with your coursework (including any credit recovery) is essential for graduating. The farther you get behind, the further the graduation stage gets from you. Right now, regardless of your grade level, you have a path to graduate. But by failing a course, missing completing course recovery, or not attending your Google Meets, you take a step back away from the stage.
The stage is the goal. Since you entered SMCPS as a preschooler or kindergartner, this has been your finish line. You can see the end. Therefore, it's important that you understand the importance of passing the classes.
In order to graduate you must have 22 credits, take all of your state assessments AND have a pathway (either 2 courses of world language in the same language OR a career/technical education path).
Not sure where you are? Mrs. Scheetz can meet with you to show you. Just reach out!

5. Windows Update
Have you updated your computer recently?
It's important that you run the updates to your computer when they pop up. If you see an icon with orange arrows at the bottom of your computer (where the date and time are), you have pending up dates.
Shut your computer down properly, and choose the "update and restart" option from the menu rather than the "shut down" option.
Be sure your computer is plugged in when you run the update to make sure it doesn't shut off before the update is finished.
