Y5s Benefit from Print Rich Environment
Our Young 5's students enjoy our many fiction and nonfiction books in our classroom library. This is an important path towards the ultimate goal of our students' becoming readers as they enter kindergarten. A print rich environment is one of the ways we build children up for success in learning to read. Numerous daily opportunities during our seeds unit helped guide students to experience print, and vivid pictures, to encourage a love for reading, which in turn makes students want to read more.
Board of Education Presentation
On Tuesday, April 8th our Comets shined at the Board of Education meeting. Our StuCo led by Anthony Lupo, Jayden Ross, Ever Smith, and Sadie Baird led with the Pledge of the Allegiance. They then shared information about the all they have accomplished this year.
In addition, Ian Davis, Vanessa Swistock, Sophia Crimi, Owen Ross, Mrs. Deimel & Mrs. Schop discussed the benefits of Reflex Math. Reflex is a fun online program that helps students in grades 2-6 become fluent with their basic math facts. They shared the following interesting facts about our usage:
Beginning of the year fluency was 34.3%, current fluency is 74.7%
Twain students have gained nearly 25,000 new math facts since September
Students have solved 1.95 million facts this year
Around 60% of students have 3 or more green light days per week
FPS Parent School Climate Survey
The survey is open to all parents/guardians, through Monday, April 14th. If you have children in multiple buildings, you may take the survey more than once. Each time you take the survey, it will ask for the building and grade level your child attends.
The data you provide may also be used by the school and district to better understand the current climate in the school(s) your child(ren) attends. Your answers will be combined with the answers of other parents at the school and district levels, and used to create records about the climate of our schools. These reports will not identify any person or their responses.
The Cardboard Arcade Returns this Week!
Twain’s 3rd Annual Cardboard Arcade Night will be held on Wednesday, April 16th from 6:30-7:30 PM. The students that signed up will be designing and building an arcade game using cardboard boxes and other materials at home. All Twain families will have the opportunity to come to play the games. Fun Passes will be available for $2 each that evening. All of the donations will go towards our Makerspace/STEM area in the Media Center. If your child would like to attend, they must be with a parent. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Lentine. We look forward to seeing the creations!

M-STEP Testing Begins This Week
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. Twain Parking Lot Reminders
The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.
