September 8, 2020 will be a memorable and special day!

By now, you have heard from your child's homeroom teacher and learned more about their classroom. Know that this week, we are here to work with you and focus on building safe, positive, classroom communities.

Thank you for working with your child's teacher to make sure your children log in daily and access learning daily.

If you have any questions, please start with your child's teacher or call our office at (757)648-3040 between 7:30 - 4:00 Monday-Friday. I also ask that you give your child's teachers up to 24 hours to respond. They have been working tirelessly to create a great start to the school year.

During the Virtual Learning Window that opens Sept. 8, our instructional day starts at 8:30. Make sure your child is logged on to their computers at 8:30 AM. Check your email for 1st Day directions from your child's teacher (may have been included in their Open House presentation).

Our K-5 Teachers are storing materials in Schoology, so look for a green "Welcome" folder and other helpful information. Our PK-4 and ECSE teachers are primarily using Seesaw. Please check your school-home connection baggies and email for more!

Snap a pic of your child's first day of (virtual) school at Malibu! Please email to sandra.whitney@vbschools.com (Subject: First Day MES) and it could end up in our 2020-2021 yearbook. If you tweet, please tag @MalibuESVB and use the hashtag #FirstDayMES.

Please email your child's teacher or call the school (757)648-3040. You can also attend your child's teacher's office hours (posted in their schedule). We ask that, during the instructional day, you allow your child's teacher to focus on teaching students, troubleshooting, and transitioning between learning experiences. Parent conferences are best arranged at a mutual time. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility!

School breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge to all students while schools are closed. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, you can pick up your food in the front loop from 10:30am-1:30pm, Monday-Friday. Our cafeteria ladies will be there ready to serve you.

This year teachers will take attendance during virtual learning. If your child will be absent for any reason, please contact the main office at 648-3040 and make sure you let your child's teacher knows, as well.

If your child is unable to attend the "live" lesson for the day because of an appointment, he/she should still complete the assigned work from the live or synchronous lessons. Please talk with your child's teacher to find out where the assignments for make-up work will be stored.

We love for our Malibu Surfers to shine, and when they shine we love to tell others all about it! Throughout the year, teachers take pictures of their students in class, clubs, and fun activities in the building. These pictures are then used on the morning news, in the yearbook, on Twitter, and sometimes even in the local newspaper! If you DO NOT want your child's photo to be taken and included in these opportunities, please print and sign the PDF then return it to school by Friday, September 11, 2020.
