From the Principal's Pen...
Parents and Guardians,
This year, our campus theme is "Watch us Grow." A major part in growing academically is falling in love with reading. Reading nightly for at least 20 minutes will not only set the tone that reading is important, but your child will acquire better vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills.
In February, we will host a book fair. We are looking forward to allowing parents and grandparents shop with their students. On Valentine's Day, we are hosting "Lunch with Loves." Please remember to bring your driver's license to check in at the front office.
Speaking of books, we are excited to celebrate two millionaires on campus, Anna Ledyard and Naomi Kelly. A reading millionaire is one who has read over one million words. This is documented when readers take Accelerated Reading comprehension tests. Encourage your child to meet this goal as well.
Know that we are in the business of making sure students are well-cared for, and they are challenged to grow academically. It is our JOY to serve all Winona Wildcats!
Please consider joining our campus Parent Teacher Organization for a $5.00 membership.
We are looking forward to having an amazing school year committed to student success!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call 903-939-4800.

Campus and Classroom Precautions:
- Winona ISD will socially distance to the extent possible.
- All WISD classroom teachers will maintain a current seating chart. The seating chart must be on file with the home campus per Northeast Texas Public Health District.
- Students should continue to bring their own refillable water bottle from home.
- All staff and students will receive training related to proper hygiene practices, including hand washing and respiratory etiquette.
- The district will continue to provide hand sanitizer throughout every campus and facility.
- The district will continue to provide EPA-approved surface cleaner for all campuses, departments, and classrooms.
Instructional Information:
Masks:
- The wearing of masks is optional in Winona ISD.
- Per GA-38, school systems cannot require students or staff to wear a mask. GA-38 addresses government-mandated face coverings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other authority to require protective equipment, including masks, in an employment setting is not necessarily affected by GA-38
- A student suspected of having a communicable illness (such as flu, COVID-19, Pertussis, etc.) will be provided a mask to wear until the student is picked up by a parent/guardian.
- The Texas Education Agency’s School Health Operations Requirements state that school systems must allow individuals to wear a mask if they choose to do so.
Student Attendance:
Protocols for Campus Visitors:
Parents and visitors will visit the campus by appointment only.
Screening Protocols:
Staff will be required to complete a self-screening process prior to entering a Winona ISD building, and the district may require further screening of employees at any time based on current state and federal guidelines. Staff are expected to sign in any time they are accessing a District facility/building utilizing the QR codes on the doors or a campus sign-in sheet.
A parent or guardian will be required to screen their children for COVID-19 symptoms each day prior to sending them to school. Parents will need to take their child’s temperature daily. Additional screening may be conducted during the school day.
Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school on campus if the child has COVID-19 symptoms (as listed in this document) or is lab-confirmed with COVID-19, and instead should opt to receive remote instruction until the below conditions for re-entry are met.
Staff and students should not enter campuses or district buildings if any of the following apply. The individual:
Is sick or has been sick in the past 14 days. Symptoms to watch for include fever (100°F or higher), cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell.
Has a confirmed case of COVID-19 or has been in close contact with a person with a confirmed case of COVID-19. These individuals must follow all isolation and quarantine guidelines from the local health authority or their physician.
Has a household member who is awaiting COVID-19 test results, or who is awaiting their own test results.
Has traveled internationally or on a cruise in the past 14 days.
Teachers will monitor students and refer them to the nurse if symptoms are present.
