IMPORTANT UPDATE ON OPEN DOORS PROGRAM
Good Morning,
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this to inform you of the drastic decrease in funding for our Open Doors programming. This news is deeply disappointing, but we want to assure you that we are committed to restructuring and rebuilding our programs, though this will take time.
The good news is that we WILL be offering our summer programming as planned, but without bussing. Summer programming will be held July 8th through August 8th(Monday through Thursday), from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm. We will still be providing both breakfast and lunch. However, the capacity for summer will be on a smaller scale than the previous summers that were funded with ESSER funds. We will be working on the brochure for summer in the coming days and hope to have it out by the end of next week. The upcoming school year will also look quite different.
Mrs. Trainer and I are confident that with your continued support, we can navigate these changes and grow to be what our students know and deserve. Your commitment to our mission is invaluable, and we hope we can count on you to stand by us as we work to revitalize Open Doors.
Thank you for your understanding, patience and ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Margaux Vaillancourt
EXPLORERS 2ND GRADE MONEY MATH
Second grade Explorers have been learning about a real life skill: counting MONEY! We have been working to identify coins, name them, their values, and learning strategies to quickly count them! Ms. Fitzgerald
INVESTIGATORS 3RD GRADE READING
NAVIGATORS (BORST) KINDERGARTEN ART
The kindergarteners now have the opportunity to use one of the dedicated art rooms for learning experiences when their art classes are scheduled. These rooms make mess-making art workable. In the linked pictures below, students are shown taking balls of clay and fashioning them into bowls. These will be dried, fired in the schools kiln and glazed for function and beauty.
INVESTIGATORS 1ST GRADE SNACK TIME
It was snack time and a birthday celebration time in Ms. Ross' classroom when these photos were taken.
EXPLORERS AT RECESS
A replacement tetherball was added to the playground after the previous one went missing several weeks ago. An excited group of Explorers students immediately queued up to play the game. Meanwhile a vigorous series of four square games took place nearby. 5-6-2024

EVENTS, OPPORTUNITIES OR INFORMATION
UPCOMING VISIT TO ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL BY NBC5 METEOROLOGIST
Dear Parents and Caregivers of St. Albans City School,
We are pleased to inform you that NBC5 Meteorologist, Marissa Vigevani, will be
broadcasting her live weather updates from our school Friday, May 10th between 4:30 -
8:00 am, at approximately 15 minute intervals. This is part of NBC5’s “Weather at Your
School" program. We are excited to be hosting this special featured segment. Parents
should plan to stay with their children until administrators and faculty arrive around 6:15
am if they want to be featured earlier on that morning.
Ms. Vigevani will be positioned right in front of the building by drop offs broadcasting
with the camera pointed toward the school building. There will be opportunities for some
students throughout the morning who are interested to interact with Ms. Vigevani and
“make an appearance” in the live broadcast and give a weather forecast of their own.
After the morning newscast, students may also partake in other recorded segments with
Marissa that will air during the 4:00 pm newscast later that day to recap the event.
Please fill this google form out if your student plans to come early - thank you!

The online sign-up process guides participants to the best locations to plant trees to help cool their homes, reduce energy usage, and save money. Residents can also sign-up by phone by calling the Arbor Day Foundation at 855-234-3801.
The trees must be reserved in advance and will be available for pick-up on Saturday, June 1, 10am-12pm at the St. Albans City School (29 Bellows Street).
The tree giveaway is being coordinated by the St. Albans City School and the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program, a partnership between the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation and University of Vermont Extension.
