September is Workforce Development & Construction Awareness Month
National Workforce Development Month: Celebrated annually in September, this month is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of workforce development efforts across the nation. It emphasizes the value of career readiness and highlights programs that help individuals develop the skills needed for in-demand jobs. At Goshen High School, we take this opportunity not only in September but throughout the entire school year to spotlight skilled trades and other workforce opportunities that align with our students’ future career pathways. Our commitment to workforce development is continuous, ensuring that students are consistently exposed to industry opportunities, career readiness programs, and hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for success.
- Construction Appreciation Week: Held during the third week of September, this week is focused on recognizing the contributions of the construction industry and its workers. Construction plays a critical role in building and maintaining the infrastructure of our communities.
- Did you know? Goshen High School has a full Wood Shop program where students can earn a 12-point credential in NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research), a certification highly regarded by industry employers. Additionally, through grant dollars, Goshen Middle School has started a Small Hand Tools program, which introduces students to working with their hands. This program can serve as the foundation for a potential career in construction or simply as a valuable lifetime skill.
- Industry Partners Awareness Assembly – September 18th:
- Goshen High School Juniors and Seniors will be invited to attend a morning assembly with industry partners. This assembly will introduce students to skilled trades and workforce opportunities through programs like the TOOLS Program, CAP Program, and Cincinnati Air Conditioning (Cincy Air).
- TOOLS Program: Provides senior scholarships and connects students to industry opportunities.
- CAP Program: Introduced last year at Goshen High School, it was a huge success, offering students an introduction to residential trades. Several 2024 graduates were hired into jobs.
- Quote from a 2024 Goshen graduate now working with Hackney Custom Carpentry:
“I have had amazing luck with Hackney. I’ve been doing baseboard, doors, and cabinets, and it’s awesome.”
- Cincinnati Air Conditioning (Cincy Air): A long-standing partner offering fully paid apprenticeships in HVAC. Students can work with Cincy Air starting in the summer of their junior year. During senior year, Cincy Air partners with the school for work-based learning opportunities, allowing students to earn school credit and work after January of their 12th grade year.
College Search: Finding the Right Fit for You
Dear Juniors and Seniors,
As you approach the exciting, yet sometimes overwhelming, college admissions process, it's important to think carefully about what you want in a college experience. With so many options available, the key is to reflect on what matters most to you, and there are great tools out there to help simplify the process.
Start by Asking Yourself These Key Questions:
- Do I want to live on-campus or off-campus?
- How big of a class size am I comfortable with?
- Do I care if professors will know my name?
- What majors am I interested in?
- What sports or activities do I want to participate in while in college?
- How far from home do I want to be?
Answering these questions will help narrow down your options and focus your college search on schools that fit your needs and goals.

Stay focused, and remember: You’re not just looking for any college, you’re looking for the right one for you.
Early College Application Deadlines are Approaching!
Seniors, are you headed towards College? it’s time to get focused on your college applications! With Early Action and Early Decision deadlines just around the corner, it's crucial to stay organized and informed about the various deadlines that can impact your college admissions and scholarship opportunities.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the different application types and important dates:
Early Decision
- Binding application. You can apply to only one school using this option, and if accepted, you’re required to attend that school. Be sure to research if your top-choice school offers Early Decision, as not all do!
Early Action
- Non-binding application, meaning you can apply to multiple schools and aren’t obligated to attend if accepted. Many Early Action deadlines coincide with scholarship opportunities, so don’t miss out!
- Earliest Early Action Deadline: October 15 – just **41 days away**!
- Schools like Ohio State, Miami (OH), and Purdue have an Early Action deadline of November 1.
- Other schools, such as the University of Cincinnati, have their Early Action deadline on December 1.
Rolling Admissions
- Some schools accept applications on a rolling basis, meaning they review applications as they come in and will continue offering spots until their class is full. If you’re considering this option, submitting early can give you a better chance of acceptance!
Regular Deadline
- This is the final date to submit your application. While many schools may continue accepting applications after this date if space allows, it’s best to meet the initial deadline to maximize your chances.
So...What’s Next?
Take time this week to create a timeline of the schools you're applying to and their specific deadlines. Start finalizing your application materials now to avoid last-minute stress. Remember, applying early often gives you the best chance at scholarships and priority consideration.
Stay on top of things by reading next week’s Where To Wednesday for tips on what to include in your college application essays and how to gather your recommendation letters!
