Boy’s Tennis Team
We’ve got some solid goals set for this season. All of our 3 flights of returning single players are already looking strong. We’ll have a much improved doubles combinations this season as well. Don’t be surprised when this year’s team will be seen in the top half of the stronger teams within our county as well as making another solid run in states.
Returning key players are sophomore Ananath Vasistha, who made a name for himself as a freshman last season by moving up from 3rd singles to then 2nd singles also taking 3rd place at the MCT’s 2nd flight. He then held on to the 1st singles position and qualified for individual states, where he advanced to the second round. Maahir Chadha, now a junior is in full swing yet again. He advanced to the quarterfinals of a tough MCT 1st singles bracket. He also qualified for individual singles i by n states. Anchoring our strong singles flights is junior Tanush Mendhirata. He continues to be extremely versatile and looks to do what it takes to maintain our team’s expectations.
Other players to watch. Josh Eber, Jayson Nacionales, Neel Kaushik and Sanjit Kakarla will all potentially lead the way in our doubles teams. There will also be some up and coming players shaking up things a bit this season. Aaryan Kohli, Pranav Emmani along with new additions to the program Daksh Shah, Taha Jamali and Jacob Heinrichs all are already showing tremendous promise and improvement.
In our third season together, Assistant Coach Nick Zolkiwsky and I continue to successfully challenge each player on the team. Coach Zolkiwsky is an extra set of eyes and continues to motivate each player any moment he gets. He’s also plays a tremendous role on preparing JV players for each match and prospects for Varsity considerations.
Some key matches during the season , WWP North 4/1 (Home), Pennington 5/8 (Home) and Hopwell 5/16 (Away)
Girls' Softball Team
We have a tough schedule this year with CVC division games along with out of conference games against Hun School , St Thomas Aquinos, South Brunswick and a host of other tough competition.
This season we find ourselves very short benched. We do have plenty of returners in our lineup. Olivia Pignatello, (junior) Center fielder will be our lead off hitter and this season she will supply power along with her slap hitting ability. Angelina Benitez (senior) will now hit 2nd and be our full time shortstop. Both our leadoff lefties will hope to set the table for our power hitters and create havoc on the bases. Julia Luczak returns and hopes to continue where she left off last season with home runs and RBI's. Kady Olsen will hit clean up and big things expected with her bat and in the circle for us. Middle of the lineup includes 3 sophomores who all got experience as Freshman last season Cepeda, Hulme, and stud catcher Hayden Bustos all back as sophomores and are expected to have key roles this season both at the plate and on defense. Utility infielder Grace Cutler, senior, will add depth to our defense as well as Kayla Horana. Newcomer Haley Bustos, freshman sister of Hayden, will bring another left handed power threat to our lineup.
Girls' Golf Team
As we head into this 2024 season, our girls golf program is full of anticipation and excitement. Reflecting on the strides we've made since last year, there's a sense of improvement and growth among our players. Last season the foundation was set with the addition of some promising young players joining our program, but this year, our sights are set even higher. Our dedication to practice, our unity as a team, and our unwavering belief in each other have raised the bar of expectations.
This year, we celebrate: our returning seniors. As they begin their final season with us, there's an undeniable sense of excitement in the air. For the past three years, Emmy Saragih and Shruti Jupudi have been the backbone of our team, cultivating our younger players and doing their part to continue to help build this, still fairly young, girls golf program. As we prepare to bid farewell to their incredible tenure, we're filled with gratitude for the countless memories they've helped create and the lessons they've imparted. Their dedication to the team and the game has inspired us all, both on and off the course. As they gear up to finish their senior year with a flourish, we look forward to cheering them on every step of the way and wish them the best of luck post-Hightstown High School.
One senior from each Hightstown High School club and sport is nominated to represent their club/sport. Each representative will partake in various rounds in an elimination-style competition such as a group dance number, talent show, spelling bee, interview, and more! The winner will be proclaimed HHS's Ram of the Year with prizes and honor for their club/sport!
