Our Weekly Newsletter
Happy Monday Abernethy Community, and welcome to the 1st of 7 Mondays until Spring Break!
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and all the beautiful weather that came with it. Today it was back to the rain, but that was ok in my books at least. I can take a rainy Monday after a beautiful weekend. That may just be me though...
With our newsletter this week I have some good and not so good news. As I always like to start with the good news, I am happy to share that our Learning Center teacher, Lori Ryan, has returned from leave! As she is such an important part of our Special Education team, it is so great to have her back!
On some not so good news, our school counselor, Jenny Morgan, will be out on leave. Jenny was riding her bike home on Friday after school and she was hit by a car. It is hard to think of this as good news, but she will be home on leave taking care of a broken foot, ankle and knee. My heart and well wishes go out to her, but I am so grateful that it wasn't worse. I have been in contact with her and she is in good spirits, but knows that she has some recovering to do. We are in the process of finding a substitute for the time that she will not be with us, and will be hoping for a very speedy recovery and quick return to her Abernethy Family.
While Ms. Morgan is on leave, please direct any questions, needs, inquiries or anything else towards me. You can email me at mdunn2@pps.net or call or text at 971-425-5486.

Reading Results 2024-25
Reading Results PDX has been tutoring at Abernethy this past year, and are looking to hire additional tutors for the next school year. They are primarily looking for any parents, caregivers, or school community members who are looking for paid, part-time work. We know this work is so much more impactful when our tutors come from within our students' communities, and are able to connect with students in this way. Would you be willing to post the attached flier to this group's social media account or Google group, with a link to our website (readingresultspdx.org/hiring)? No prior experience is required, and all training and materials are provided! We are excited to continue to partner with Abernethy, and hoping to meet some wonderful folks from your amazing community, soon!

Players at the Minor and Major level (league age nine and up, generally fourth and fifth grade) will attend a skills assessment on Sunday, February 11, or Sunday, February 18 at La Salle HS. These are not tryouts, but rather evaluations to create balanced teams.
New and returning players ages 4-16 are invited to develop and hone their skills while being part of a team. Games and practices are local; scholarships are available.
SEPLL has a rich tradition of success - in 2023, four of their All-Star teams won their district championships, led by 15 current and former Abernethy students!
Please visit SEPLL.org to learn more about their programs, and contact info@sepll.org or Doug Lee with any questions.
Portland Public Schools TAG Dates to Remember
Welcome to a new school year from the TAG Office!
The Talented and Gifted (TAG) office supports students, teachers, and schools with systems and structures for the TAG referral process, acceleration, and professional development for supporting student learning needs. If you have a question about TAG that your child’s teacher, school TAG facilitator, and principal are not able to answer, please use Let’s Talk to communicate with the TAG office. This is the best way to ensure your questions are answered in a timely manner.
