Shamrock Blast

In each subsequent Shamrock Blast this month, we will share a small piece of the history of Indiana's indigenous population or showcase how some of the schools are observing the commemorative month.

Each year, the Westfield Education Foundation gives away thousands of dollars in scholarships to graduating seniors to help them continue their educational journey at the institution of their choice. Scholarship awards are based on MUCH more than academics -- and some don't factor grades at all.

The application period opens at 8pm tonight, Wednesday, November 2.

Our foodservice partners, SFE, have a program called Roving Chefs where one of their chefs comes to a school and does an interactive cooking lesson with the students. It is a great opportunity for kids to a have hands-on culinary experience, learn food and cooking vocabulary and have some fun!

Recently, some of our students who are learning English got to have the experience!

If you need all day BAC for your kid(s) during Thanksgiving Break or Winter Break, the registration deadlines are fast approaching. Availability is limited, so register ASAP to ensure your child has a spot.

Congratulations to Erin Ondrusek for being recognized by the Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) by being awarded the Hoosier Upstander Award! This recognizes a commitment to Holocaust education. She has shown a "commitment to using the lessons of the Holocaust to inspire Hoosier students to stand up in the fight against hate and bigotry."

Since its creation last year, the "Welcome" shirt has been a popular one with people continually asking where they can buy one. Well, your chance is finally here. In this limited-time store, you can buy t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and more that feature a shamrock made up of the word "Welcome" in the languages spoken by our school community.

Do you have a child in grades 4-12 who would like to be a part of The Pride of Westfield's winter programs? Bring them to the call out meetings and consider joining the team!

Early voting is available to any voter registered in Hamilton County. No application is necessary. Just bring your ID (Indiana Driver’s License, Indiana State ID, U.S. Passport, or U.S. Military ID). Below is Westfield's early voting information.

Schools are opening up for volunteers, lunches and many more opportunities. Anyone who would like to come into our school buildings will need to register with SafeVisitor and do a background check. Check with your child(ren)'s teacher and/or principal for opportunities to visit.

Westfield Washington Schools is now using TalkingPoints to communicate with families! TalkingPoints allows for seamless multilingual two-way communication between teachers and families. Families can choose to receive messages via SMS text messaging or through the free FAMILIES | TalkingPoints mobile app for Apple or Android.

This platform has enhanced translation capabilities, so families can receive and send messages in their preferred language. Additional tools like speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and closed captioned videos make this program accessible to all of our Westfield families.

The most important thing you can do to ensure you are receiving messages from your child’s teacher is to make sure your contact information for the “Father” and “Mother” fields in PowerSchool is correct. When a teacher sends out a message, TalkingPoints will automatically use those two phone numbers. If you’d like to add additional contacts, please reach out to your child’s teachers.

FCCLA Foodies Rock is a fully functioning foodservice operation that is student centered and fostered through the Westfield High School Culinary Arts program. Our members are highly trained in customer service, hospitality, culinary techniques, food safety and sanitation. Foodies Rock holds a Food Permit by the Hamilton County Board of Health, Advisors Nikki Heflin and Bryan Ferreira are ServSafe Manager certified, and will follow the National Restaurant Association’s Guidelines for food preparation. Chef Heflin and Chef Ferreira each have over 20 years of industry experience, and love guiding their students in making both the optics and cuisine for your event out of this world!
