Greetings Hembree Families,

What a wonderful week we had at Hembree! We had our kindergarten program "No Turkey for Perky" this week. It was adorable. A huge thanks to Ms. Slay and the kindergarten team for all their hard work.

Our 4th grade students visited Mercedes Benz Stadium this week. The trip was very educational and very enjoyable for all. We are glad our Hawks had this experience.

It is finally beginning to feel like fall weather. We are looking forward to an exciting week coming up. We hope to see you at our feast on Wednesday 11/20.

Thanksgiving Feast-Please Read

We are SO excited to host you all for Thanksgiving. A few tips to make your experience the best it can be:

1. Please prepay for lunch. https://bit.ly/4fquMfs . This will minimize your wait time on arrival. You may only pay with cash on the day of the feast. Please arrive early so that we can process your payment in a timely manner if you are paying by cash. The price for each guest is $6.00. You cannot use your student’s lunch account for payment. Student lunches and lunch prices and process are unchanged.
2. You are welcome to come and visit with your student during their lunchtime without purchasing lunch. You may not bring in fast food.
3. Your student’s schedule has changed for the day. Please see the attached flyer for these changes. Their class is also allotted time at the book fair and art show.
4. Parking will have its challenges. The Hembree Park across the street will have some additional parking available. Please take care as you cross the street.

We hope you’ll join us for this wonderful day of community and gratitude. We are THANKFUL for you, our families!

Parent Survey-Action Item

PLEASE help us by completing the parent perception survey. We currently only have 16% participation. We need at least 60% for the data to be valid. The goal is 85%. It's that time of year again for our Annual Parent Perception Survey. Your participation is essential, as the results will influence our strategic goals and our school report card. Please refer to the letter below to complete the survey. Thank you in advance for your involvement!

At Fulton County Schools, we truly value the feedback from our parents about their experiences with the district. That is why I encourage all parents to take the Annual Parent Perception Survey. This survey allows parents the opportunity to tell us what they think about their student’s schools and the district. While we always make it a priority to listen to our parents, this survey affords us another opportunity to receive your thoughts and opinions.

The survey is anonymous and confidential. Please complete one survey per school where you have one or more students enrolled. The survey will remain open from Wednesday, October 16 through Friday, November 22.

It’s not only parents we want to hear from. Our students’ opinions are important too! Students in grades 3-12 will be provided with the opportunity to take the Annual Student Perception Survey between October 17 and November 22 during the school day. In our ongoing efforts to remain transparent with parents, please take a moment to review the 3-5 student survey

The Annual Perception Survey is currently available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Hindi, and Punjabi. If you or your family would like to take it in a language that is not listed, please email your child’s principal.

Thank you to everyone who donated their candy after Halloween! P.E. teacher Holly Marzetti said the candy will be donated to the men and women in the military as part of the Treats for Troops program.

The Book Fair has arrived! Next week, your child will have the opportunity to shop during their regular scheduled specials time. They can bring money any day that week and shop. If you send cash, please place it in an envelope or baggie with your child’s name on it, or you can create an eWallet account and load money to your child’s account. Using discussion questions from the PTA School of Excellence Program we'll discuss how we can refine and improve our family engagement practices. Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. This year, we have a schoolwide reading goal of 50,000 minutes! We can’t reach our goal without the help of your child! If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. Family Engagement Thursdays

Families! YOU are your child’s first and most influential teacher. As such you have so much to offer your student! To encourage family engagement at home, we are offering family engagement Thursdays. Each week there will be (1) activity to do at home to be completed prior to Friday. We’ll list the activities for the month in Hembree Highlights and offer reminders via social media. Your student will have the opportunity to receive a *bonus* Hawk’s ticket for participating (look out for more details from your teacher) We’ll include tips and tricks to get the conversation started and reinforce learning from the school day. Please spend anywhere from 10-20 minutes with your child engaging with them around their day at school and encouraging their social and emotional skills. We’ll also encourage you to practice other skills inclusive of Math and ELA. ¡Familias! USTED es el primer y más influyente maestro de su hijo. Como tal, ¡tiene mucho que ofrecer a su estudiante! Para fomentar la participación familiar en casa, estamos ofreciendo participación familiar los jueves. Cada semana habrá (1) actividad para hacer en casa que se completará antes del viernes. Haremos una lista de las actividades del mes en Hembree Highlights y ofreceremos recordatorios a través de las redes sociales. Su estudiante tendrá la oportunidad de recibir un boleto * extra* de Hawk's por participar (esté atento a más detalles de su profesor). Incluiremos consejos y trucos para iniciar la conversación y reforzar el aprendizaje de la jornada escolar.
