February: A month dedicated to Gratitude, Growth, and Inspiration
Dear Milford School District Community,
As we welcome the month of February, a time traditionally known for heart-shaped reminders of love and kindness, I challenge you to look for and reflect on the many ways our school community continues to demonstrate these values every day.
February is a month where we can celebrate progress, persistence, and the spirit of learning. Whether it’s the quiet determination of our students in their classrooms, the collaboration of our dedicated staff, or the steadfast support of our families, each one of you plays a crucial role in our shared district success.
As we navigate the remaining winter months, let’s continue to show patience and compassion—both for one another and for ourselves. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, but taking a moment to recognize the growth and accomplishments around us makes all the difference. Just look at the construction progress of our Milford Middle School, the academic growth of our students and the growth in our family involvement throughout our various sporting and school events.
Let us make February a month of gratitude, growth, and inspiration. Together, I BELIEVE we will continue to build an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their potential.
Wishing you all a warm, rewarding February ahead!
In gratitude, your Superintendent,
Dr. Bridget Chaves

Once a Buccaneer, Always a Buccaneer – Anchored in Excellence, Sailing Beyond!
Our Milford community is truly one of a kind. Within the vibrant tapestry of our school's history, emerge the individual threads of stories, successes, and contributions of our alumni. Let us celebrate the legacy and continued impact of our graduates in our community and beyond!
Haley Pagden, Class of 2019
Meet Haley Pagden, a proud Milford alumni and now teacher! Ms. Pagden is a graduate from our Teacher Academy Pathway, class of 2019. Her hands-on experience not only showed the dedication behind the education profession but also ignited a passion that made choosing a career in teaching an easy decision.
When asked her favorite part of teaching, she shared “ There are many rewarding moments as a teacher, but my favorite is being able to show my students how much they have learned and grown throughout the year. I am able to see their faces light up with excitement and their love for learning grows!”
A true buccaneer at heart, she decided to teach in Milford so she could give her students the same support and encouragement that she received while attending the Milford School District. “I hope to influence some current Buccaneers just as I was inspired during my time as a student in our district.” We are beaming with buc pride!

We believe the district's partnerships with families and community are integral to the success of our students and community at large.
Reformation Lutheran Church
Thank you to our friends, Pastors Eric and Paige Evers and the Reformation Lutheran Church community for their generous donation to our Team Milford Initiative.
We recognize that the success of our students relies on the dedication and talent of the individuals who serve them. Our Team Milford initiative aims to Empower and Invest in Our People.
February is packed with celebrations and opportunities to connect!
1: Acts of Kindness
Valentines Day is a great time to get children thinking critically about a complex human emotion. Take a moment to capitalize and talk about human emotions. This article, Love Lessons, offers great critical thinking questions to ask your child.
On February 14, let’s spread kindness and appreciation for Valentine’s Day.
2: Things to Celebrate
Black History Month
Check out the performance our MHS Arts Department recorded last year to honor BHM.
Love the Bus Month
February marks the month-long celebration of Love the Bus, a time to show gratitude towards the dedicated professionals who ensure the safety of students on their journey to and from school. This initiative is a meaningful way to recognize the diverse group of individuals who make the yellow school bus experience possible for students.
Did you know?
Every day we are proud to transport 7,000 students daily to and from school. In partnership with our local contractors and their drivers, and 62 buses, we complete 200+ routes daily covering over 5,000 miles! Does anyone want to try a math problem and figure out how much fuel is used by our buses each day?
3: Things to Remember
Buccaneer Educational Foundation has officially launched!
Under the leadership of School Board Vice President Matt Bucher, the Buccaneer Educational Foundation has officially launched. The mission of the new foundation is "a partnership of educators, parents, business and civic leaders that will engage the entire community to inspire academic rigor, diverse learning opportunities and to help prepare Milford School District students to become well-rounded productive citizens." They are looking for community members to join the organization and help fulfill their mission. For more information, call or text Mr. Matt Bucher at 302-462-1962 or email him at bucherx@aol.com

Academic Progress
February marks the midpoint of the school year, and it’s a great time to check in on academic progress. I encourage families to review their child’s progress, stay in touch with teachers, and take advantage of opportunities for academic support, should they be needed.
As we move through the month, we will continue to focus on supporting both the academic and social-emotional growth of our students. We remain committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment that fosters a love of learning and prepares students for future success.
