News from the nest
October 31, 2024
Hello Ramsey families. As we move into November and the weather is finally catching up, I wanted to remind everyone that students do go outside every day. Please ensure they are dressed properly for the weather that day. We do not have extra coats, hats and mittens for students to borrow each day so it is important they come prepared. If you need support in getting any winter gear for your child, please reach out to our social workers and they will assist you.

Habit of the Month
The habit we will be learning about and practicing in November is "Begin with the end in mind." Some of the common language we use around this is "setting goals" and "planning ahead." Students will be working on goal setting in many different areas at school. We often call the WIGS- Wildly important goals! They will learn to break down those goals into action steps to identify what needs to be done.
Practice the Habit at home
Research has shown that by writing down goals and making a plan to achieve them you are much more likely to succeed. Consider working with your child to set goals this month around reading at home, eating dinner at the table, or setting limits on screen time. Write these goals down, and the action steps. Make them visible so you can be reminded daily and track your progress.
Girls on the Run
Ramsey Elementary renewed its chapter of Girl's on the Run. This is a run club focused on building leadership and resiliency within our 3rd-5th graders. As a part of this, they are training for a 5K coming up in November. Last week, these girls and their running buddies completed their training 5K in the neighborhoods around the school. Congrats to all the runners and their volunteer buddies and good luck in the official 5K!
Veteran's day
On Nov. 11th we will be honoring those who have, or are still serving in our military. Letters will go home to families this week inviting any veterans to join us that morning. We will also have an honor wall that will include names of those joining us, as well as those that are unable to join. That morning, students will watch a pre recorded slideshow to learn more about the importance of the day. Then we will all fill our halls to watch the Veteran walk of fame led by legion color guard. There will be refreshments for our veterans joining us after this parade. Students will continue their day with some additional learning activities provided by the Anoka-Hennepin school district.
Schoolwide Celebrations
Lunch Visitors
Like other big schools in our area, we are using Sign-up Genius to have families book a reservation to ensure we have space to accommodate. We will have up to 6 visitors per grade level per day. All adult visitors must have a valid ID that will be scanned at the door.
The 7 Habits Workshop
It's not too late to join us for our 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families Workshop! You can attend even if you did not attend the first session. This month, we will be covering Habits 3, 4, and 5 (part 1). Learn more about the 7 Habits in Leader in Me and see how you can support your student's leadership skills at home. This is an adult learning event. Childcare and snacks will be provided.
Numbers & Nachos
Numbers & Nachos is back this year! Join us for an exciting night of math games and chips, cheese, and salsa. Math games will be set up by Mathnasium in the south gym for enjoyment at your own pace, and many of these games can also be played at home. The math games are best enjoyed by elementary aged students, but all families and children of all ages are welcome to attend.
Special Education Advisory Council Resource Information Night set for Nov.14
The Anoka-Hennepin Schools Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) is hosting a resource information night for families of students with special needs to learn about resources available in the community. Vendors for sports, camps, and community services will be in attendance.
When: Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6-7:30 p.m.
Where: Educational Service Center, 2727 N Ferry St., Anoka. Enter through Door 7 and meet in Erling Johnson rooms C and D.
Families will be able to speak with various vendors at stations that will be set up in the rooms.
The SEAC intends to provide tools and resources to help guardians of children receiving special education services and collaborate with the district to promote continuous growth of special education services to best meet the needs of students. Members serve as representatives of district learners with disabilities from birth through age 22. SEAC strives to promote, educate and share resources between families, schools, and communities.
The council is a partnership between parents/guardians and the school district and meets four times (three in person and one virtual) during the school year.
Winter weather reminders
Minnesota weather is shifting gears, and the Anoka-Hennepin School District has plans in place for when extreme winter weather arrives.
The safety of all students is the first priority when determining if schools should stay open in adverse weather. If a determination is made to close school due to extreme winter weather, the district will alert families in a variety of ways, including:
Text and email message from #AHSchools. (For parents/guardians only.)
District and school websites.
District and school social media pages (e.g. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).
Media outlets including WCCO, KSTP, FOX 9, KARE 11, CCX Media, WCCO radio and Star Tribune newspaper.
Those responsible for activities scheduled in schools over the weekend will determine if adverse weather conditions necessitate a cancellation.
Read more about the district’s policies on extreme winter weather at ahschools.us/weather.
November Parent Press
