December Newsletter
Principal's Message
The weather has definitely changed and even though there's not much snow on the ground, it definitely feels like winter outside, and the sounds of practicing for our upcoming concerts are filling the air inside the school! December is always a great time to be in school. There are lots of special activities going on as we anticipate the Christmas Season and get ready for a couple of weeks away from school.
But before we get to that, there is still lots of learning to do! Having our Student-Led Conferences in November allowed you as the parents and family members to see what life looks like for your kids at school. We love sharing the great learning that is happening and we hope that you enjoyed seeing it! Report cards went home at the end of the month and that is also a good time to reflect on the learning that has been happening.
If you haven't attended a school assembly, that is another great way to see what is going on in the school. This past month we saw 4T and 4M share some of their learning. We also had a special assembly led by Mrs. Giesbrecht and Mrs. Murphy to get ready for the Community Christmas Food Drive. Our assemblies are all about building community in our school and we'd love to see you there. They happen every Friday at 9:15 - please check in at the office before heading to the gym.
Thank you all for your ongoing support of our school. And if I don't get the chance to say it directly to you, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!

Christmas Concerts
We have made a slight change to our afternoon Christmas Concert Schedule on December 17 at Steinbach Mennonite Church. Please note the following:
- The kindergarten concert will be from approximately 1:00-1:20. Doors will open at 12:30 for parents and friends to find their seats.
- Following the kindergarten concert there will be a short intermission to allow the kindergarten students to leave, and for the grade 1-4 students to set up for their concert. The grade 1-4 concert will start immediately after this switchover has happened.
- Following the kindergarten concert, the kindergarten students will be bused back to Elmdale. Parents wishing to pick up their children may do so at the school.
- At 1:00 the sanctuary doors will be closed for the kindergarten concert. Parents and friends waiting for the grade 1-4 concert will be asked to wait quietly in the foyer until the kindergarten concert is over, or enter prior to 1:00 and enjoy the kindergarten concert.
- The evening performance will remain as scheduled at 7:00pm and features our grade 1-4 students only.

A Few Reminders
Bus Loop & Parking
We have been again noticing an increase in the traffic in our bus loop during the day. If you are coming to pick up or drop off a student or a forgotten item during the day, please park in the family parking lot at the Northeast end of the parking lot. Please do not park (even temporarily) in the bus loop near the building. We frequently have buses coming for field trips and we need to keep this space available for them.We understand that this means a little extra walking, but we appreciate your cooperation with this.
Pick-up Time
Please ensure that students are picked up promptly at the end of the day. Students who walk or are picked up are dismissed at 3:45. We do not offer after school programming or supervision, so it is very important that students are picked up on time at the end of the day.
Hallways
If you are picking your child up during the day, please come to the office. We will call your child down. Please do not go to their classroom to help them get packed up. We understand that sometimes you may be in a hurry, so please allow enough time to allow your child to get packed up and to come and meet you at the office.
Community Christmas
Elmdale students are collecting non-perishable food items for South East Helping Hands. We will be collecting items until December 6th.
It is wonderful to see the spirit of giving in our school as we build our sense of community and citizenship to look out for those around us.
Thank you to all our Elmdale families and students who are able to bring in some items for our community Christmas drive! A special thank you to Mrs. Anita Unrau for coming to volunteer each morning to help organize the donations. She also created the beautiful bulletin board where we are tracking our progress.
Thank you
