CCS Update 3.18.25

Donation of School Supplies
CCS is fortunate to be supported by a few kind individuals and groups. Heartfelt Ministries, Mr. and Mrs. Scayles, and Mr. Orr have provided support via the Heartfelt Food Programs for our students and families. We recently received a generous donation of school supplies (a Mid-Year School Reload) from them, and we are very grateful for the support!

Two-hour late arrival for students on Wednesday, 3/19!
Dinner at Three Brothers on Thursday, 3/20!
Eat in or carry-out between 4-7pm 🍕 We need your support!
Come by Three Brothers in Prince Frederick this Thursday for some delicious dinner! You can eat-in or place an order for carry-out. All orders placed between 4-7pm (except online orders) will earn CCS a percentage of the profit made during that time.
Rock Your Socks on Friday, 3/21!
World Down Syndrome Day
On March 21st each year, people around the world celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing mismatched and/or brightly colored socks. People with Down Syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome, which is why World Down Syndrome Day is on 3/21. Socks were chosen because chromosomes look like mismatched socks! Superintendents Visit
Dr. Townsel, CCPS Superintendent, visited us last Thursday. We are happy he took time to walk through the school to see our staff and students in action. He talked with some students about the LFI S'cool Beans coffee shop, discussed AI (artificial intelligence) and met Swim Shady, our terrapin. Dr. Townsel later posted to FaceBook that he was impressed by our dedication to developing a supportive and engaging learning environment.

What's happening in Secondary classes?
During English classes, secondary students are working on non-fiction text. The seniors are writing their autobiographies, and our 8th and 9th graders are reading and studying biographies. The biographies are Anne Frank, Maya Angelou, Walt Disney, and Louie Zamperini. Ask your student which famous person they are learning about and see if they can share some knowledge about that person.
Our 8th grade students completed the MISA (Maryland Inegrated Science Assessment) test in Science. The purpose of the assessment is to provide educators, parents, and the public with information on student progress toward scientific literacy.
Grades 3-8 will be taking the ELA Assessments in April.
Fun in the library!
Our students learn all sorts of skills in the library! CCS student, Megan, is working with Ms. Jones and librarian, Mrs. Halstead, to program our Bee-bot robots. Bee-bots are programmable robots that students can use to work on counting, sequencing, directionality, problem-solving, estimation, and computational thinking. Megan was programming her Bee-bot to avoid a collision with Mrs. Halstead's and Ms. Jones's Bee-bots. We don't want our Bee-bots to become bumper cars!
