June Board Meeting Recap
RECYCLING BIN REMOVED:
Over the past several years, the cost to keep the recycling bin onsite has increased. Along with the cost increase, the district continuously struggles with keeping the parking lot and athletic fields free of debris that is blown out of the bin. We do apologize for any inconvenience and hope that you understand our reasoning behind removing the recycling bin from our facility.
JUNE 2024 BOARD OF EDUCATION UPDATES:
1. Following the approval of the agenda, the Board approved the consent agenda (past minutes, monthly bills, and budget amendments). With June 30th being the end of the fiscal year, it is customary for the Board to consider end of year fund transfers. The following fund transfers were approved:
- End of fiscal year transfers: Fund 1 (general operating fund) to Fund 4 (capital improvements fund) = $348,967
- Fund 1 to Fund 2 (teachers fund) = $175,273
2. The Board then recognized the 2023-24 Winter Color Guard team as part of the 'Board Spotlight'. Congratulations ladies on a great year!
3. New Business:
- 2024-25 Food Service Rates: Each year the Board reviews food service information and projected food service program costs to decide on any adjustments to breakfast and lunch rates. The Board approved the following rates for 2024-25. Breakfast = $2.10 for everyone; PK-6 Lunch = $2.70; 7-12 and Adult Lunch = $3.05. If your child(ren) qualifies for reduced lunch, that rate will remain the same at $.40. Reduced breakfast will remain the same at $.30.
- 2024-25 Tuition Rate Information: Each year during this time the Board reviews and considers tuition rate information for the district. During the June meeting, the Board approved raising the tuition rate for the 2024-25 school year to $8,000.
- A statutory requirement during this time of the fiscal year is for the superintendent to present a preliminary budget for the upcoming school year. The Board approved the preliminary budget for 2024-25. Final budget recommendations will be made in September of 2024. The approved preliminary budget document can be found on the district's website at www.midbuchanan.k12.mo.us by clicking on the 'Menu' dropdown, scrolling down to the 'District' section and then clicking on the 'District Budgets and Audits' link.
- The Board then approved moving forward with installing new preschool playground equipment. The projected cost of this project is approximately $117,000. We are hopeful this is ready by the start of the new school year...fingers crossed!!!
- The district recently went out to bid for asphalt repairs and upgrades now that all new construction is complete. Keller Construction was awarded the project at $350,000. The project includes a complete milling and overlay of the entire main parking lot, all needed work in the back drive area, a sidewalk addition along the north side of the new high school addition, tying the 7 downspouts on the new high addition together in sections to run them under the driveway as opposed to draining onto the driveway, and restriping all parking spaces. We know that the window to get this done with the contractor might be a tight window right up to when school starts. We will do our best to communicate any parking lot or back road closures as this project progresses.
4. Administrative reports were then presented

Campbell Connection
I became a Dragon in 1988 when my mother started teaching Family and Consumer Science for Dragon Nation. I graduated in 2000 and returned to Mid-Buchanan in 2007 to teach high school math. In 2014 I became the assistant elementary principal and in 2019, I was promoted to the elementary principal. As I think about the upcoming school year, there is one word that describes my Mid-Buchanan journey... grateful.
I am grateful to have the opportunity to be the Assistant Superintendent for this upcoming school year. Mid-Buchanan holds a special place in my heart, and I am deeply honored to have this opportunity to serve our wonderful district in this new capacity.
This year, I am excited to focus on several key goals that I believe will significantly benefit our students and community:
Unifying a District-Wide Writing Process: Writing is a crucial skill that helps prepare all students to be successful and productive citizens. I am committed to establishing a cohesive writing process across the district.
Focusing on Student Achievement: Student success is at the heart of everything we do. I will prioritize initiatives that support and improve student achievement by collaborating with all stakeholders, which include parents, students, teachers, administrators, and community members.
Learning More About the Superintendent Role: As I step into this new position, I am eager to learn more about the responsibilities and challenges of the superintendent role. This knowledge will enable me to better support our district's goals and contribute to our collective success.
I am looking forward to this year to continue to build on the strong foundation of Mid-Buchanan and create an even brighter future for our students.
