February Family Messenger
2024
Dear Marthasville Students and Families,
Love and care is in the air! We finally got through the longest month EVER and boy are we ready for SPRING! So many exciting things are coming up this semester. Be on the lookout for information regarding Read Across America Week, Book Fair, Spring Title I Family Engagement Night, Blue Jays Give Back Service Day, Spring Conferences, Music programs, DARE Graduation, Career Day, and so much more!
BIG, BIG THANKS to our PTG, MVL Families, and Community for supporting our school at the Trivia Night last month. If you donated items for the class themed baskets for the raffle and auction, we are extremely grateful! So many days off created a barrier to collecting items in a more timely manner, but we had a wonderful assortment of baskets for trivia participants to win!
Kindergarten Connection is almost here! If you have a future Blue Jay starting with us next school year, or know someone who does (or someone who should definitely MOVE HERE!), call Cheryl to start the enrollment process. Kindergarten Connection is a wonderful opportunity to meet our awesome Kinder teachers, tour the building, get some swag, and learn about being a Blue Jay. We can't wait to see you February 15th from 3:30-6:00!
The 100th day celebration is February 7th! Our Blue Jays are growing smarter every day and we are so proud of them. Here is a fun read aloud to show your kids:

We are very excited to kick off the One District One Book Initiative with The Lemonade War! I have attached February's monthly reading calendar below, as well as the read aloud version of the first chapter if listening is easier for your family. Your kids can follow along in the book while they listen! If you follow Reader Dad on YouTube, he has posted videos from each chapter. https://www.youtube.com/@readerdad4332
I am in the season of reflection and WOW! I continue to be so proud of our school and community. Our partnerships with families and businesses are growing stronger each day and it makes me so excited for our future together. I am so grateful our families send their Blue Jays to us each day to teach and love. We have so much more work, fun, and progress to make as a school family and I am so happy to be the lead learner!
Most Caring,
Mrs. Kristen Daffron

News from Mrs. Busekrus
School District of Washington Parents/Guardians:
The School District of Washington will host the Children’s Advocacy Center or CAC to present sexual abuse prevention training to students grades 5th-12th. These presentations meet the guidelines of RSMo 170.045 as outlined with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education [DESE]. Parents and guardians, please note the presentation materials discuss sensitive topics related to sexual abuse prevention. We encourage viewing the materials and videos for additional information. The Parent Opt-Out Letter is available for parent/guardians who prefer their child NOT participate in the CAC presentation on sexual abuse prevention. Please return this letter to your child’s school office. (Note: The Opt-Out Letter was sent home the week of January 8th, 2024.) The lessons for Marthasville Elementary will be on February 27th and February 28th. For more information about the KIDS’ Rights Program curriculum presented by the CAC, please visit this website, https://www.playitsafe.org/curriculum_gradelevels.php. This site includes a summary of the presentation, along with video trailers used in the presentations.
Cash for Classrooms by Casey's Rewards
We’re excited to share that our school is participating in Cash for Classrooms, part of Casey’s Rewards. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you buy from Casey’s and use their rewards program you can simply turn your points into a donation to our school. Find Marthasville Elementary in the rewards section of the Casey's app to start donating today!
Any donation that a school receives from the program can be used to purchase supplies for extra-curricular activities including sports, technology, art and/or school supplies within your school. Join us in giving back to your community! Funds will be disbursed to schools twice a year via check to the school's address and will be sent in December and April. No minimum amount required.
Technology
2-6 Blue Jays need to take their device home every night to charge. Students who consistenly forget to charge at home or forget their device altogether, will have to fill out a Think Sheet for being unprepared. If your child needs a new charger from the district, pleast let the office know. Chargers purchased from Amazon or other stores that are not meant for our district issued devices will cause harm to the battery life and ability to charge fully.
Visitors and Volunteers
If you plan to help at a class party or be a guest reader, you only need to have your ID scanned through Raptor.
